Classy hotel within walking distance.of old town
Lovely location above a bay, with an inspiring view out to sea. The weather was warm enough for us to have breakfast on the patio twice in our four-night stay.
The standard rooms are perhaps closer to four-star than five in terms of size, but each has a sea-facing balcony, which is a big plus.
The spa is well-appointed, with a shaped pool (not ideal for swimming lengths, if that's your preference) and the sauna and steam room were cooler than I expected them to be. (Also remarked upon by a couple of others using them.) I suspect it was just that day.
The staff were outstanding throughout and very friendly (as was everyone else we encountered in Dubrovnik).
Tomislav, at breakfast, was both friendly and funny and could not do more, particularly when I was a little under the weather (not a hangover!) and he brought me herbal tea and a pot of honey. (I was later told Croatians consider honey to be a remedy for just about every ailment under the sun, and who knows, they may be right - it certainly made me feel a bit better!)
Altogether, an excellent stay.
Dubrovnik is a lovely city, with its spectacular views from the walls (which are a must), but a week would perhaps be too long without day trips.
To pass on a word of warning we were given a couple of times, it is best to avoid the high season when up to seven cruise ships a day bring an influx of thousands into what is a relatively small, enclosed old town.
