Pocket Guide: Historic Hotel Hotels in Dubai Emirate

Dubai is perhaps best known for its futuristic skyscrapers, unbeatable hotels and man-made islands. Yet it’s also a city with a rich history. Known as the Pearl of the Gulf, Dubai once relied on sea trade as the basis of its economy. Nowadays, it is a thriving modern hub for businessmen, holidaymakers and shoppers.

Visit Traditional Markets in Dubai

Make your way to Dubai’s centuries-old markets, known as souks. These bustling places are must-see attractions, even if you’re not looking to make a purchase. A walk around the Gold Souk will leave you dazzled by the lavish array of gold, diamonds and platinum on offer.

Alternatively, take in the wonderful smells of the Middle East at the Perfume Souq, and be sure to look for oud oil, one of the most valued scents in Arabic culture. If you do find yourself tempted, then watch the locals haggle, and copy their tactics.

Stay in One of Dubai’s Historic Hotels

There’s no better way to learn more about Dubai’s past and present than to stay in one of the many historic hotels in the city. Some of the best places to stay are just a short walk away from famous markets and other cultural attractions. Browse hotels and book your Dubai accommodation using Expedia’s handy search tool.
