pretty at first sight

Posted 22-Jul-2017
Pros: Pleasing at first sight good food helpful service
Cons: Electrician required and changes to the access to reception at night for water
Location: It is in the countryside you need a car
We were pleased by our first view. The staff were friendly. Unfortunately neither bedside lamp worked. We told the staff who told us this would be fixed in a week!!! Only the overhead light worked. Breakfast was great despite rather a long wait for coffee on the first morning. Parking was very convenient. When late at night we were short of water, i found that whilst I could get outside there was no access to the hotel. I did get a response to the outside bell eventually and a helpful young man fetched us water. I have nderstand the need for security but arrangements need to be changed.

Unusual (in a good way) room, very for Dover ferry

Posted 09-Jul-2017
We only spent a short time at the Marquis at Alkham as we arrived late and had to leave early the next day. The room had everything promised, and the bonus of a beautiful floor-to-roof ridge window. We weren't sure of the wisdom of having a glass door to the loo, and it would have been useful to be able to adjust the height of the shower head, but apart from that we were very impressed.

A Bit of a Find!

Posted 07-Nov-2016
Location: The hotel is surrounded by wonderful countryside and many opportunities for walks from the hotel into the surrounding hills. There is a garden centre
We had a spacious ground floor room, beautifully decorated. The super-king bed gave us a wonderful nights sleep, so comfortable. First class breakfast included. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed an afternoon short walk after we arrived and another short walk in the surrounding lanes after breakfast and before we checked out. Amazing value for money. We highly recommend.

Lovely bespoke B&B

Posted 23-Sep-2016
Fabulous place to stay. Lovely room which was very bespoke with some great touches - including a soft toy sheepdog acting as the do not disturb sign! Great hospitality tray including fresh cookies each day. The bed was so comfortable, lovely bathroom too with plenty of toiletries at our disposal. There were a couple of issues with the facilities, for example the tv and DVD player did not work brilliantly and could do with updating. The bar was a very nice place to relax with comfy sofas. The restaurant was excellent. Comfortable seating and high quality cuisine. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous breakfast - a rare treat to have fresh cooked rather than buffet - including the toast! All in all we had a lovely stay and would recommend to anyone who wants a romantic mini break

The room was lovely, very comfortable and clean - the staff were also very helpful The food from the restaurant was not so good - expected a lot better, some of the basics really let them down.

Enjoyable stay albeit for one night only

Posted 24-Aug-2016
Pros: Located in beautiful countryside and close to seaside resort. Friendly, welcoming staff.
Cons: Perhaps just general maintenance, as previously mentioned we had a toilet door that wouldn't close and just swung open.
Location: Lovely location if you like country walks and close to Dover and Folkstone.
We received an afternoon tea voucher as a gift from our son and daughter-in-law and decided to stay overnight. The afternoon tea was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't however have our evening meal at the hotel as the menu wasn't to our taste. Our room was clean and spacious ( although the toilet door was faulty and wouldn't shut ). The breakfast was good and we were served by a lovely lady. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Cosy hotel

Posted 20-Aug-2016
Cosy hotel, close to Dover city centre. The only problem I will highlight is that our room was very noisy and sometimes smelly due to kitchen stractor fan being so close to the window. Overall good experience with very nice staff
