This is the third time we had stayed at this location. Yet again we were not disappointed. We were able to check in early and having travelled over 4 hours, this was extremely helpful. This is a dog friendly hotel and there is a very large dog who wanders around the property. The upper floors are dog free. The bedroom was spacious, with a large wardrobe and dressing table, a well equipped bathroom with storage. We were staying bed and breakfast over the Easter weekend. Breakfast was a small continental cereals offering but no fruit or yogurt (which I missed) but the cooked breakfast was very good and a vegetarian option offered. The chef was very accommodating, considering the one broke down on Sunday during carvery service. We did have one evening meal and that was the carvery . I only booked just before it closed but the meat my husband had was very good quality and there was plenty of vegetables etc for me. Lovely lady who cleaned the rooms, always asked if there was anything I needed if we didn’t have the room cleaned (my choice) .fantastic location for walking the coastal path , within walking distance of pubs and a co-op. There’s a Tesco a couple of miles away and a great bus service to Weymouth. This is a hotel that is not getting its worth of good recommendations and that I feel is unfair. We would definitely go back.

It could have been a lot better
We have used this hotel on several occasions as it us close to our family. This is at least the third owner in recent years. Our superior room was clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities, it was well serviced daily. As it is an old MOD building the exterior isn't the most eye catching but the restaurant helps break it up. We had not met any of the staff before and. despite being very friendly, we felt that some training by an hotel specialist would help. Typical of this was when arriving for our first breakfast, to be asked "Are you walk-ins?" We normally like a drink in the bar before dinner but, whilst there is a bar. there is nowhere to sit and we were shown straight to a table in the restaurant. There is a list of "Dog Rules" in each room including one which says no dogs in the restaurant. This obviously didn't apply to the large black dog that was in there quite a lot. We don't have a dog We felt that rather than having to carry plates, cutlery, food, etc from the buffet, the tables could had been laid for breakfast. Inside the hotel there are some piles of surplus furniture stacked in corridors. Apparently there was entertainment on two evenings during our stay, there was nothing to inform us of this. Lots of little things added up to leave us disappointed, we hope that the new owner makes a success of it, but we didn't feel that our stay this time would make us regulars.

Apparently none of the in room heating works in the hotel! We had to ask for a mobile heating unit. The rooms are attractive.

Firstly, on approach to the hotel, it looked like a massive concrete block then on getting closer it did not change much. Inside we were shocked as it was nice in there. Good job we did not want to eat there as the restaurant was not open our first night there not good as we were hungry so had to pop out for food. The rooms are very nice and big but the carpet we should wipe our feet when leaving the room than going into our room. Breakfast was ok and the ladies serving were very good but the cook in the kitchen was a lazy devil as when he had nothing to do he still rand the bell to take food out even when he sees the ladies are busy serving and cleaning he won’t move. Last night there was very loud with other guests shouting and banging doors at 1Am. I feel for the cost of the hotel per night is over priced. Sorry but we have to say for others to see.

Lovely welcome at reception, nice room very comfortable bed. A strange set up as the site is shared with a school and an industrial site, however great views towards Portland bill. Stairways could do with paining as numerous marks on the walls. Room 227 was great with one exception, black mould on the corner of the bath

Very good value. Lovely bathroom with great shower and very clean. A few marks on the carpet. Very large bed but mattress could be better although didn`t interfere with sleep. Good English breakfast just bit of a wait for eggs to be cooked both mornings. Staff pleasant and helpful - would stay again. Thank you.

One thing I not happy with is as we booked table for time 8.00pm and told us short of staff and delay for foods is hour and so decide to sit down and wait but while waiting for foods and band set up and turn light off and how can we see eating our foods which still waiting so we decide to go another table finally it comes with foods but not great with foods not happy and ask the bills but still have to pay full price I think that was unfair as waiting for that long 1hour 45 min for foods and one staff could t wait to rush us to pay .

Stayed for a local wedding staff very nice all friendly and helpful room nice carpet stained and aircon not working which was a pity as very humid comfy superking bed Breakfast was buffet style which was very nice very nice chef who if not too busy cooked us poached eggs. Enjoyed the evening restaurant food again one evening chef cooked me a different meal not on menu!!!

Slow service for evening dining. No burgers in the "burger-bar", one steak tough and inedible, another only partly edible. Carpet stains in bedroom, only one of three portable lamps worked properly. Bathroom shower hose dirty. Very impersonal and unwelcoming - who owns and manages this hotel? The MOD or another of HM establishments?

Thankyou for review..we don't have a 'Burger Bar' at the hotel, the restaurant is primarily a Steakhouse and we apologise for burgers not being available on the night of your stay. The building is indeed an old Military Buildings, which is listed and so therefore we are unable to make many changes to the exterior of the building, there is information in reception readily available giving the history of the building, which you maybe missed. In relation to your feedback on your room, this has been passed onto housekeeping to investigate and act upon. Thankyou again for your review, we appreciate any feedback.

Dont let looks deceive you the building has history the inside is goid for the price point and dining room and cooked breakfast is excellent. Only negative thing i can say is the carpet in the room had a fair few stains on. Deff get a sea view room.
