Easy in and breakfast buffet included. Staff efficient and helpful. Rooms okay but in need of some work. Hall carpeting in bad condition. Getting to our room was complicated. We had to ask for help once to get back.
Great Chinese restaurant a half block down from hotel. Ten minute walk to main shopping area and twenty to The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Tours to Great Wall easily available. We saw the Legend of Kung Fu with tickets through the hotel. Close to the subway and taxis are reasonable. We had a short stay but crammed in a lot. The hotel helped us to have an good time.
the hotel locate near to Dongdan underground station which make my travel to from the hotel very easy.
the hotel is very clean and comfort and locate in the middle of the city, walking distance to the Forbidden City.
Many shopping center are walking distance from the hotel.
Great location! Walking distance to; Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven (~30 mins), Shopping, night markets & restaurants and easy access to subway station. Beijing subways are cheap & easy to navigate (and essential because the city is HUGE!). The room was large, comfortable bed with turn-down service in the evening & complimentary bottled water.
Note: Do not trust the map on the Expedia website, the the red dot is NOT where the hotel actually is!!!! It's a little further east on the north side Jianguomen Inner St.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for just a short time. The room was comfortable. The bed was a true king-size, unlike other hotels I've stayed in. All in all we were there briefly in the evening and we had to leave early the next morning, but we were very comfortable the entire time.
"Beautiful quiet courtyard in the middle of Beijing"
The beauty of this quiet courtyard hotel is apparent only once you are inside - it is off a non-auto alley or "hutong" in the older hutong neighborhood of downtown Beijing. We had the luck to be there on some rare clear-weather days in Beijing, so the sun and blue sky above the traditional tiles of the roof and the courtyard trees were just beautiful. Hard to believe you're in the middle of the city - this is steps away from the NanLuoGuXiang older shopping street (filled more with Chinese domestic tourists than international ones), and a 10 minute walk from the subway or from the historic Drum Tower.
The rooms are a bit small and the beds very firm - after our second night, we mentioned this and got another, much more comfortable layer on the bed. Very nice, new bathroom, and comfortable a/c. The restaurant is excellent - eggs to order for breakfast and a very nice inexpensive lunch menu. The staff's English is varied but they were all very helpful.

"Haven of tranquility in middle of a daunting city"
Can't speak highly enough of this wonderful hotel. Beautifully decorated with Chinese art and furniture. Lovely courtyard - great community area. Friendly and helpful staff - many of whom speak good English. Quiet, peaceful and safe.
I've stayed here at the Novotel off and on for years. I like the Chongwenmen part of town and being on the Line 2 subway Chongwenmen stop makes getting around Beijing a breeze. You also have the new Line 5 that connects with Line 2 which makes getting north and south that much easier; Tiantan Park and the Pearl Market just two stops south of Chongwenmen.
The hotels rooms are very good and the staff attentive. All around, a well-valued place to stay. I will continue to stay here again.
As you enter the door of this beautiful hotel you are taken back in time and surrounded by traditional Chinese architecture. Welcomed by Owen eagerly carrying our bags, to meet the lovely ladies, Miss Wan, Jaclyn, Shelly and Coco - we knew our stay was going to be special. Our room was just stunningly decorated down to the smallest touches. In the bar, Jo made sure the drinks were cold and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The lovely lady who tirelessly stocked the generous, delicious buffet breakfast every morning and served dinners into the evening was a breath of fresh air every day, nothing was too much trouble. I honestly can not say enough about this hotel, the BEST I have ever stayed in since getting the travel bug in 2004!!

An historical district, Dongcheng is home to a concentration of major sights and treasures including Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City (Palace Museum). To the south, discover Wangfujing Street, a famous shopping boulevard that sees mostly foot traffic only. Here, more than 200 old Beijing brands still reign supreme including the Wuyutai Tea House and Shengxifu hat store.
