Nice hotel, friendly helpful staff

Posted 02-Nov-2016
Pros: Location & staff. The breakfast was nice
Cons: It needs some updating. Duvets instead of blankets on the beds. Wi-Fi would be helpful
Location: Fantastic location with loads to do.
Nice hotel, quite old fashioned but fantastic location. Clean & friendly, enjoyed the swimming pool and playing tennis indoors.

Overall this hotel is beginning to look tired! TV in bedroom doesn't work. Buffet breakfast is sometimes cool and bacon is hard to eat.

Shocking

Posted 12-Sep-2016 on Hotels
The entrance hall is quite spectacular but that is the only good bit about this hotel. The whole hotel including the room is completely original back to when it was built, no upgrade of anything including such things as the mattress (which is the most horrible old lump of jump I've ever slept on with every spring sticking into you) no wifi what so ever ,as it was a business trip this was very poor. The shower didn't work, the cold basically turned half a turn and the hot would go on full blast therefore you can either have a scaldering back burner or it's a very minimal dribble. The room was practically on top of the main road which was extremely noises the majority of the night. At around 9 o clock a mass of bass and overly loud music started pumping, when I phone the reception I was told there was a party happening practically under my room until 12 o'clock ! No mention prior to the visit, obviously to late at this point to change rooms as all my belonging were hung up and I was trying to rest ready for work the next morning. Shocking tv in the room, the only feature from this side of the last 50 years. Was told online that the hotel was only 18 miles to my Sunday event destination however when leaving in the morning I was surprised to find in fact it was 50 odd miles ago and took almost an hour! Overall the worst place I've ever stayed and will definitely not be going anywhere near.

We were hoping to stay in Exeter but there was no availability so we decided to try Torquay having read so much about it over the years. The pictures on the website looked great but arriving at the rear of the Hotel was an immediate disappointment. It was scruffy in desperate need of some updating. This continued inside at the reception and again in our room. This Hotel needs a serious make over to bring it up to the expectation an average traveller requires nowadays. The staff were friendly and when we asked to be moved because of the disco they duly obliged. We would not return to this Hotel which is reminiscent of the 1970's.

Close to Torquay city and coast

Posted 03-Sep-2016
Pros: location
Cons: everything
Location: Good spot to explore Devon and even plan Cornwall day-trips.
The best thing about the hotel is the location and the garden. Also quite OK buffet breakfast. Staff seem uninspired and some even rude. no minibar, no internet and no proper room service. Hotel desperately needs a facelift.

Hotel 3 star but staff 5 star

Posted 22-Aug-2016 on Ebookers
Pros: Friendly welcoming staff
Cons: Hotel could do with up-dating and made to look brighter, it was all quite dark.
We only stayed one night and had we been staying longer we would have preferred a different room. We requested top floor which we got but overlooking garages, road and awful noisy air conditioning unit below but given the room had no air con it was probably the kitchens? The staff were fantastic from Nick on reception to the guys in the bar and the staff at breakfast the next day. Breakfast was choice of continental and full English but also freshly cooked from the kitchen. We had poached haddock and poached egg which was faultless and included in the room rate. Though the hotel could certainly do with some re-furnishing the friendly attentive staff actually made our stay.

An 'OK' stay

Posted 19-Aug-2016 on Hotels
Very big hotel, room was very disappointing for a hotel that considers itself up market. Wall paper peeling off the wall. The toilet in the en suite was in a very awkward position. When you say down you would burn your arm on the heated towel rail. Around the toilet basin was very dirty too. Staff on the check in desk and the bar were very good and helpful.
