Nice Hotel with a good location

Posted 03-May-2016
Pros: Gardens, location, restaurant and breakfast.
Cons: Need a new sauna.
I stay for 2 nights in this Hotel in room no.137. The staff were very kind and helpful . Room was clean but small. Room has no iron as usually a 4*Hotel has. Shower in the bathroom was fixed to the wall at a certain height, without the possibility of being used by someone taller.Great gardens .

Traditional hotel in need of upgrade

Posted 26-Feb-2016
Pros: The standard and quantity of breakfast produce available.
Cons: Bedroom facilities; radio was of poor quality. Better means of checking rooms clearly need to be put in place.
Location: I was only there for one night, so can't comment.
I paid a very reasonable rate, but frankly the bedroom was below standard. Specifically the bedroom mattress had blown. It was like sleeping on springs, and one of the worst night's sleep that I've ever experienced. The shower head also kept dropping, so that it needed to be held, if one was having a shower. I went for a soak in the bath, but it wasn't a comfortable bath. The breakfast was excellent, although a brand of decent ground coffee would have been more acceptable. Staff were courteous, although when buying drinks in the bar, the barman stated that there were no crisps available.

The decor of the room was dated. There was mould/damp in the cupboards and I did not feel comfortable hanging out any of my families clothes in them. There was rust/damp around the plug socket behind the television, which I used for the kettle. The carpets did not look or feel clean, and the carpet gripers were showing in the main room. There were electric heaters left in the rooms which made the room look untidy. The bed linen was dated. The covers looked dirty and the woollen blankets were not appealing at all. The Temperature of the rooms was unbearably hot. The hot water in main room had to be run for a long while before you could actually get any hot water to wash your hands or have a shower, and in the twin room bathroom only the cold water tap worked. We tried to use the indoor pool also, but unfortunately the temperature of the pool was too cold, especially for the children so we were in the water for less than half an hour! The changing rooms and facilities were mouldy and grimy and the lockers were rusty and old and did not lock.

Could do Better

Posted 17-Jan-2016
Pros: Staff helpfulness
Cons: Decor, tv's and the heating system!!!
Booked a single room for 2 nights in January (out of season) for a funeral. Room was small ish but adequate I guess for the money, only £38 per night including breakfast. A bit dated with regards to decor etc, bathroom was large given that it was a single. I had an old portable TV which wasn't working. Staff happy to try and fix but instead decided to upgrade me to a double room overlooking the grounds, a lot better but still a bit dated and rough round the corners, heater was hanging off on one of the fittings, propped up by wardrobe door. On the subject of heating this was permanently on so room too hot even in January so slept with window open. For the money paid and the helpfulness of the staff, and obviously the upgrade I got then it was worth the money. However if it had been busy and I couldn't have moved rooms I would have been disappointed.

Time 4 a refit

Hotel looks grand but unfortunately there are major problems inside. When I entered my allocated room it was not made up ...... When I finally got given a ready room I was very disappointed. It was so dated. The picture on tv was hopeless but also it was a small size rou ded tv of 20 years ago. No wifi in rooms and only spasmodic downstairs. So many improvemen ts needed.

Never again

Posted 03-Nov-2015
Pros: Not a lot
Cons: Pull it down and start again
Location: Thankfully only stayed one night
Staff at check in and at breakfast very courteous, the room thankfully was for one night only. Bathroom shower curtain god only knows what was on that, tiles around the bath and the grout, well I could not work out if it was supposed to be black or if it was just mold. The ceiling tiles if you shut the bathroom door to loud would have come down and whatever was hanging from them I don't want to know. Now on to the bedroom the bed was probably left from when the building was first constructed about 1850 or so/ they then managed to put sheets on the bed that had more holes than your average tea bag. On to the window someone before us had managed to stuff toilet paper in to the frame to stop it rattling it kind of worked but if it was to stop a draft that was a pointless exercise because the crack in the glass was letting in the only fresh air in the room in.

Large hotel with good leisure facilities and plenty of car parking. Was upgraded from a single to a double room - clean and pleasant although a little dated. Excellent plentiful breakfast. Very pleasant attentive staff, and plenty of them . Thanks for a pleasant break.
