Close to Torquay city and coast

Posted 03-Sep-2016
Pros: location
Cons: everything
Location: Good spot to explore Devon and even plan Cornwall day-trips.
The best thing about the hotel is the location and the garden. Also quite OK buffet breakfast. Staff seem uninspired and some even rude. no minibar, no internet and no proper room service. Hotel desperately needs a facelift.

A step back in time

Posted 03-Aug-2016
Cons: The wifi availability could be improved as could access for those less able to access the gardens and facilities due to disability.
The Palace is a wonderful venue. The facilities, although a little tired, are very good indeed. The staff are fabulous, always helpful, smiling and good at their jobs. The breakfasts are very nice too and the service is polite, friendly and helpful. The gardens and garden staff are lovely. It was a pleasure to stay at the Palace Hotel. A few drawbacks may be... the steps in the hotel for disabled guests, very little wifi ( some say that is a good thing!) and the distance from the centre of Torquay.. but these are minor issues. The hotel itself was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of a hotel which gives the feeling of the days when service and facilities were seen as a priority!

Needs an overall refurbishment. Nothing of any significance has been done to the hotel since I first stayed there 42 years ago. The culinary standards however have remained high.

Great hotel with a lot of history my only problem whilst I stayed there was one particular receptionist that had the people skills and helpfulness of a trout, all the other staff were great though

Unable to sleep due to noisy 'kitchen' fan.

Posted 22-May-2016 on Hotels
This 2night stay was booked as a gift for my father& his partner. They are both nearing in their late 60's and arrived home exhausted as they were unable to sleep due to large extractor fans that were kept on until 01:00 for kitchen. My father was moved 4 times but they couldn't be moved to quiet end of palace as they was a convention on! I am so upset as they were quite poorly on their return! They did also mention it was very tired looking, but did say that the food was good. I am so upset as I could have booked him anywhere in the whole country and he eoikd gave slept better.

Nice Hotel with a good location

Posted 03-May-2016
Pros: Gardens, location, restaurant and breakfast.
Cons: Need a new sauna.
I stay for 2 nights in this Hotel in room no.137. The staff were very kind and helpful . Room was clean but small. Room has no iron as usually a 4*Hotel has. Shower in the bathroom was fixed to the wall at a certain height, without the possibility of being used by someone taller.Great gardens .

Avoid!

Posted 15-Mar-2016 on Hotels
We had a dreadful room [146] in this really run down hotel. Bed had springs nearly poking through the mattress; there was an awful smell of fried fish, decor was '1970s' awful and in a dreadful state of repair - chipped woodwork, badly painted walls and fraying carpets. Such a shame; all we wanted was a nice place to return to after the theatre, and this was one of the most uncomfortable nights of our lives! There was even a lack of sockets in the room - just one which was being used by the fan heater! The reception rang us when our cab arrived, but apart from ringing, the phone then didn't work either! Faded and run down and needing a lot of money and attention to make this even vaguely a 'Palace'!
