Good location, friendly staff, clean room

Posted 03-Sep-2016
We booked the City Gate due to location. We had no prior expectations. First impressions, from the outside, it does look tired. We went to reception upon arrival and staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were shown to our room and were pleasantly surprised. Yes, decor needed as tidy up in places, however the room was light, airy and clean. Bed was firm with good quality pillows. It is not a luxury hotel, but had everything we needed and it was a good base for our trip to Exeter. We would stay again.

Central location, bit noisy, comfy bed

Posted 30-Aug-2016
Place needs renovation but don't let that put you off. If all you need is a comfy bed and a well equipped bathroom, it's great. If you're after luxury, then perhaps not the hotel for you. Slightly noisy due to single glazed windows and situated on busy road but nothing that kept us awake

Great location and walkable to Main Street. Good for the price if is just a overnight rest. Parking is just across the street, free 6pm to 8pm which just prefect timing to travel out. Main train station is also within minute away. Hotel have bar, interesting deco with nice garden ambient for relaxing meals and drinks. Overall all is a little old but is value for $$$

The City Gate Hotel

We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable hotel. The room was much larger than we expected and had plenty of room for us to put everything away! The bathroom was modern. There were tea and coffee drinks available in our room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our stay included breakfast, and we had a choice of items which were delicious. We were able to walk to Exeter Cathedral and the surrounding area.

Quaint little hotel in a great location. Slightly dated but on par with everything else in the area. Very nice pub downstairs. Would recommend.
