Nice hotel but ....

Posted 21-Nov-2016
The City Gate is a city centre pub with 15 rooms. The rooms are well decorated but beware on cold days. There is no cenursling heating just air conditioner blowers and they just don't cut the mustard. Also some window panes are loose so draughts. The pub is nice enough and the limited menu palatable. Dan the manager is a great fellow.

Friendly, comfortable stay

Posted 31-Oct-2016
Location: Exeter's a beautiful city
Friendly staff, comfortable king size bed in our double room. Great cooked breakfast. A bit short-staffed. In need of a refurb, which we gathered is happening in the next few weeks. Would definitely book again.

Gut zu erreichendes Haus in Stadtnähe.

Posted 26-Sep-2016
Pros: Die günstige Lage in absoluter Stastnähe.

Cheap for a reason

Hotel hallways were disgusting and the room wasn't much better. Sheets did not appear to have been changed from the previous guest. Bathroom was falling apart. Great location but clearly the hotel is more of a hobby for the bar owner.

Good location, friendly staff, clean room

Posted 03-Sep-2016
We booked the City Gate due to location. We had no prior expectations. First impressions, from the outside, it does look tired. We went to reception upon arrival and staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were shown to our room and were pleasantly surprised. Yes, decor needed as tidy up in places, however the room was light, airy and clean. Bed was firm with good quality pillows. It is not a luxury hotel, but had everything we needed and it was a good base for our trip to Exeter. We would stay again.

Central location, bit noisy, comfy bed

Posted 30-Aug-2016
Place needs renovation but don't let that put you off. If all you need is a comfy bed and a well equipped bathroom, it's great. If you're after luxury, then perhaps not the hotel for you. Slightly noisy due to single glazed windows and situated on busy road but nothing that kept us awake

City Centre Location

Posted 16-Aug-2016 on Hotels
I felt this was a pub with bedrooms rather than a hotel. Rooms were nice and the bed was comfortable. Wifi was too slow to do anything with. Excellent location with friendly staff but I feel it is too expensive for what you get. The bar closed at 11pm even for residents!

Great central location

Posted 10-Aug-2016 on Hotels
We were very happy with our room and the pub downstairs has a really lovely outdoor garden. Service was great and the breakfast was very yummy too. The location is perfect as very close to town but not noisy. Only downside was that we stayed Sat and Sun night and our room didn't get cleaned

There is no lift in the hotel. The staff are helpful. They help us move the heavy luggages to the room.
