Close to city centre

Posted 03-Jun-2017
Really nice hotel with lovely pool and spa area and other facilities. Breakfast included cooked fresh from menu or buffet. Room very comfortable, only downside was the little extras which I would normally expect for the quality of the hotel and the price paid such as no bottled water in room and no biscuits with coffee. Really enjoyed stay.

Nice hotel close to centre of city

Posted 15-May-2017
Only one night's stay but quite comfortable. Good breakfast. Staff were very polite and efficient. Good sized room and comfortable bed. Good shower and great to have shelving in the bathroom for washbag etc. Great to have ironing board and iron available. Nespresso coffee machine in room, noisy, but good. Swimming pool and changing facilities were good. Enjoyed our stay. Would use hotel again and would recommend to a friend.

Generally nice, close to town

Posted 20-Apr-2017
Pros: close to town with access to gym and pool
Cons: clean the lampshades over the bed
Location: Short walk to town and sites, lots of parking.
Hotel is relatively close to town, gym is fairly basic. Generally nice and clean (except for lampshade over the bed that had layer of dust)

Nice place to stop close to city centre

Posted 05-Apr-2017
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Great food. Overall a lovely relaxing hotel.
Cons: We personally found the bed pillows extremely hard and the paintwork in our room desperately needed repainting.
Location: Great location, short walk into the centre of exeter. Endless things to do, shopping, sightseeing, theatres and lovely restaurants. Great history
Very helpful friendly staff, in this lovely hotel. Great location for exeter, but lovely and quite in the hotel too.. We would definitely stay again and would recommend to friends.

Nice hotel close to city centre

Posted 03-Apr-2017
Pros: The staff and the food.
Cons: See previous comments.
Location: Exeter is a beautiful city.
Efficient and friendly staff and good food. We have stayed at the Southgate four times in the past four months. However, we have two negative points: 1. We believe that it is unfair to charge guests £12 per day for parking. 2. We purchased a 330ml bottle of water at the bar to take to our room and we were charged £2.50, we believe this is exorbitant. Most good hotels provide free drinking water in the bedroom. In view of these points we will check with other hotels in Exeter when we make future visits. Also because of these negative points we would be cautious in recommending this hotel to friends.

Nice hotel close to the city centre.

Posted 21-Mar-2017
Pros: The staff are very friendly and efficient and the rooms are clean and comfortable.
Cons: Car parking.
Location: Exeter is a beautiful city and we enjoy just walking around.
We have stayed in the hotel four times since November 2016, visiting sick relative. The only problem that we have had is finding a car parking space on a few occasions.

Easy access to the town & quayside.

Easy access to the town & quayside. Parking is at a premium and if there is an event on can be hard to find space.

Good hotel, close to everything

A quick weekend away in a city I've been through many times but never stayed in. The hotel is in an excellent position, close to everything so you don't need your car to explore the city. The facilities were great and although it was obviously a busy weekend, the staff were friendly and efficient. My only slight complaint was that i found the bad a little hard, but that is probably a personal thing. Overall I'd definitely recommend the hotel and will stay there again when I return to Exeter in the future.
