    Pocket Guide: England

The diversity found amongst English cities, countryside and coast means you’ll easily find an activity to suit your tastes and budget in good old Blighty. Whether you’re looking to hit the musicals of London’s West End, stroll along Manchester’s historic canals, or just explore England’s breathtaking countryside, once you scratch beneath the surface of everyday life, you’ll find more things to do with a hotel in England than you ever realised were possible.

Cities & Neighbourhoods: Where to Stay in England

London — London, England’s capital and largest city, has a burgeoning multicultural population of over eight million. Catch a musical, discover the city’s grisly past at the Tower of London, dine on some posh nosh in Kensington and Chelsea or take a loved one up the Shard for romantic aerial views across London’s sprawling and world-famous skyline. All this is close at hand with a hotel in London.

Manchester — Once the industrial hub of England’s north, Manchester has since evolved into a sleek city of culture, with its old warehouses and factory buildings now a unique part of its heritage. A centre for music and the arts, why not see what’s on at Manchester Arena before returning to your modern Manchester hotel? This venue has played host to some of the world’s biggest names.

Birmingham — Britain’s ‘Second City’, Birmingham is a thriving hub of theatre and performance art. Chocolate lovers will delight to learn that Birmingham is home to Cadbury World, while nature lovers will want to see Birmingham’s Wildlife Conservation Park. Book a hotel here and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped out onto the savanna (weather permitting!)

Brighton — Nicknamed ‘London by the Sea’, the charming Regency seaside resort of Brighton has actually been settled in one form or another since prehistoric times. For many years it was the go-to spot for penniless writers and artists, but it has now evolved into a cosmopolitan hotspot, packed with coffee houses, hair salons, trendy shopping and boutique beachside hotels.

Things to See with a Hotel in England

London’s iconic skyline, complete with Big Ben and Canary Wharf, is probably the most unbeatable in England, but there are plenty of other landmarks to see. Head to the coast for some breezy weather and a bit of hiking along the South Downs Way. Stop off in Brighton to take a snap of the city’s famous pier, one of the most photographed landmarks in the country. Meanwhile, further north, near Leeds and Manchester, the Yorkshire Dales offer some pretty impressive peaks of their own. And close to Newcastle, you’ll find the iconic 20-metre high Angel of the North statue, created by renowned artist Anthony Gormley.

Things to Do with an England Hotel

Hit the London’s West End to see one of its world-famous musicals or, if you’re looking for a slightly calmer break, a trip to Manchester not only offers all the metropolitan chic of London, but it is just a stone’s throw from the exquisite hills and mountains of the Peak District National Park. After a day of hiking, head to the Manchester’s Hard Rock Cafe with priority seating to fill your belly in style! Wherever you choose to visit, once you’ve started exploring the range of things to do in England, you won’t know where to stop.

    "Weekend Break"
We chose a small double room at this hotel and it was exactly as we expected. I wasn't sure if the heating was working properly as seemed to take ages to warm up. The bed was ok but I suspect the mattress could do with replacing shortly. The room was clean and the water hot but not great pressure from the shower. Note there is no bath with this type of room but I was happy with just the shower anyway. The hotel is in a perfect location and only a 2 minute walk to embankment underground And ideal for a short break. Most of the day/evening we were out so only used the hotel for getting changed and sleeping which was ideal. I would definitely stay here again.

"central hotel- very handy for shops, bars etc. "
the check in was very efficient. Also the check out was painless. Staff were excellent. The tv in our room was faulty - we mentioned it and a replacement tv was received very quickly. The rooms was very clean. Overall, the hotel could do with a facelift, but somehow this adds to the character. No complaints at all (apart from the weather ). Purchased a £5.20 train ticket and travelled to Liverpool, able to access ferry, all buses, and trains for 24 hours within the southport -Liverpool area- bargain. Would recommend this hotel and would stay again.
