I stayed at Derby Mickleover with friends for one night and it was comfortable. I got good sleep which is rare for me on a trip. The leisure facilities were excellent though I was slightly worried about the many steps between the changing room and the pool area. Overall it was a good experience

A great value stay and handy for visiting family nearby. Room was clean and comfortable whilst there was plenty of choice at breakfast.

Super facilities and friendly staff. Unfortunately was charged over £200 for no reason at all and told it was a system error and told I’d be refunded. Have only been refunded half and nothing more. Still awaiting my refund.

Spacious hotel with good sized bedrooms. Very clean and staff helpful and attentive. Nice breakfast with good choice and a lovely spacious restaurant.

Didn't sleep well at all sadly due to some weird noise in the room. Also road traffic noise wasn't ideal. Staff were excellent though and the leisure facilities were pretty good.

We got to the checkin desk, nobody around. 5min later, still nobody around. We had to ask the bartender to call someone in to be able to check-in. Room small, balcony door could not open, no fresh air at all, the view from room was of a mesh and some bars, making you feel like in jail. Loud as it is close to the motorway. All communal areas VERY COLD, the pool area VERY COLD, people were cold even in the steam room(!!). Ceiling paint chipping off in the pool area, rusty beams, sauna not working properly so people shoved a towel in the vent. Hot tub always full, women with small children in hot tub as well, despite the notice saying no under 16s, nobody said anything. The pool/sauna/steam area felt like a free-for-all council estate facility. In the room, the bath-tub was dirty, grime not cleaned properly, the sink was semi blocked and the toilet didn't even flush the toilet paper properly. The electric shower barely had any pressure so if you have long hair, you can forget about it. The mattress of the bed old and very, very uncomfortable; my cats have better beds! a G&T at the bar was £18. Very outdated and overall not a nice to place to be in, which is a shame because the property does have potential. Needless to say, never staying there again.

It's a lovely Hotel, our room was great. Beds really comfortable and it was relatively modern and well kept. Out of the room the hall ways, lift area and spa area are in need of some tlc lots of peeling wall paper etc just needs some love and time. Staff are really lovely and it is a really nice hotel.

COMPLETELY UNDER-STAFFED
Like staying at the Marie Celeste. This hotel operates with a shoestring staff - the management are more happy to penny-pinch and let customers down than pay for just one or two more people a week. Evening Restaurant: ONE PERSON acting as maitre d', waiter, cleaner and manager - all in one! Most hotels have at least three people covering these roles, The BW Mickleover seems to think it's acceptable to have just one completely over-worked and stressed person to try to cover this, and they couldn't - my group were asked to order food at the bar - lesser menu but the same staff making it in the kitchen and serving the food. No gym staff - just one person on reception. It used to be just the rubber eggs that made me go elsewhere but now it's gone further downhill

No faults
Nice hotel overall. Just over £100 for a family of 4 with breakfast on a Saturday night. Spacious room with all the amenities required. Pool and spa facilities were included so a big plus there. Breakfast was good too.

Clean and spacious
Excellent one night stay at this hotel. Checking in was quick and straight forward. Staff very polite and welcoming. Our room was clean and spacious and the bed so big and comfortable. Where do they get these mattresses from? The public areas of the hotel were clean and tidy. We enjoyed a drink in the bar which had a pleasant ambiance. Breakfast was the usual help yourself to either a cooked or cereal/savoury breakfast. We had the cooked which was plentiful and kept sufficiently warm. No complaints and would definitely recommend a stay in this hotel.

this place wasnt for us the decor of the place is pretty run down and needs a uplift the place had a weird old person smell (only way to describe it) all threw. we wasnt made aware they had a event on so the bar was pretty full of suited and booted older ladies and gents so we felt like we couldnt sit at the bar as we stood out and also wasnt made aware they wouldnt be serving food due to this. i requested late check out before we arrived and never got a email back...when we checked in i asked again for late check out and was told "to ask of the morning"(what the point in this would be as we still had to get up to ask i dont know) i did ask again of the morning and was told "no because we only have two staff members" i feel like the place isnt very organised and just lacks basic commuication and perks that make a stay a stay to remember id recomend some plug in's around the building too

Almost lovely stop
Hotel itself very nice! Clean, loads of geative decorations... my room was very nice, big comfy bed and hot shower.. only thing was i couldn't get the room to warm up, woke up freezing!

Everything was fine if u get a room facing dual carriageway it can have a loud traffic noice but saying that would go again as bus stop over road if want to go to Derby or get a bus from there to avoid using car

The staff at reception were not available so waiting waiting waiting ......when you just want to get into your room and rest. No food in the resturant was available so I had a snack from the bar The room was freezing ..... 16 degrees and never warmed up despite my attempts to do so.

My room had a very damp and unclean smell. The shower curtain was very smelly and had obviously not been washed for a while. Was told I could use the Spa facilities at reception but when I decided to go was told there was no where for men to get changed (only in a open space visible to anyone using the pool) and that the sauna and steam room were not working. very poor communication and really not worth the price paid for this accommodation. A real shame as the staff were great!

Needs a lot of work
Very dated facilities with light lighting fittings requiring plastering and finishing. Laminate wrap peeling from units. Carpet threadbare. Wall paper peeling in most points. Furniture in lounge area uncomfortable and very worn. Overall not a great stay. Chambermaids extremely rude and disrespectful. Check in insufficient as room not served unless you leave door tag which is printed on the sheet with dining times and not explained on check in.

The advertisement for this hotel did not match the reality. It is VERY TIRED through out. Although maintenance issues I raised were attended to within the hour. Food options for my complex dietary needs were limited. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Pleasant stay
Stay was very pleasant. Evening food from bar was very nice, as were the drinks from the bar. Room was very pleasant and had everything you’d need, low flow shower though does the job. Breakfast….the food and layout alongside chirpy staff was great- unfortunately the coffee machine seemed to produce hot water for tea fine though was providing cold lattes and cappuccinos on the day. Overall, very pleasant stay and would recommend!

Really grubby hotel in need of refurb
Hotel was old and grubby and in desperate need of refurbishment outside and in. Not worth the money paid at all. Pool area and spa were very grubby and really need sorting - I would avoid staying in this hotel again very disappointed. Staff were lack lustre and you have to ask for rooms to be cleaned which we were not made aware off. Was probably a nice hotel in late 1980’s but not much done to it since then

Hotel expects you to put up a sign before your room is cleaned. 4 nights not ones was room cleaned.
