The property is lovely. It’s truly grand. The only problem is that is celebrates an ugly period of Indian history the English colonial rule. I did not realize it at the time of booking but I will never stay at the Imperial again. My great grand father was a political prisoner for 27 years under the British rule. The imperial has a restaurant 1911 which according to the hostess celebrates the coronation of king George the v, the same king whose government Tortured, jailed and robbed countless Indians of a basic right, the right to self determination. The imperial may be a place of nostalgia for a lost empire for the English traveller but it’s not a place for indians. Our experience of the raj was a bit different from theirs. I would suggest to the managent of the imperial if they don’t want to head in the direction of the colonial powers of the past such as England, Spain and portugal celebrating a lost empire with an outstretched arm and a begging bowel to China and india then celebrated india, the indépendance and our heroes on whose giant shoulders they stand on.
