We had booked a one night stay for an early Channel ferry crossing the following day, admittedly we had booked it months ago but that shouldn’t be a reason for lack of communication. A couple of days before arrival we checked the website where they had a reasonable looking menu and decided we would most likely eat there have a drink and be all ready for a very early departure without breakfast next morning.
On arrival the place was deserted but ringing the bell brought someone running. This someone told us that he and his partner had only taken over the week before and therefore were not offering any kitchen service at all. This was mid-June but a reviewer in May had said exactly the same. We were offered some take away menus and told they would deliver if required – not quite what we had in mind. We asked what time the bar opened for a drink and were told ‘probably about seven’. As best we could see it never did!
Our room was at best average, small but clean but in serious need of some refurbishment like putting the curtain rail back on the wall so you could close the curtains and not have to stare at a roof which was the only thing you could see out of the window. Putting some batteries in the TV remote might have allowed us to watch something. The communal areas were scruffy and in need of a good clean.
The other issue is that there is no parking space.
This was an extremely disappointing stay, thankfully for only one night but that was by far and away enough.
