We stayed at the Grecotel for 7 Nights, we chose a standard room in the main hotel which we found to be perfectly ok, it was a little dated but perfectly clean, the balcony was bigger than most which looked out over the pool and restaurant, unfortunately there is a huge tree smack bang in the middle of the terrace which blocks the view of the bay for everybody, please please chop it down.... There were no coffee making facilities in the room which is a must for us, luckily we took some coffee with us and reception kindly gave us a kettle. The food was ok and exactly what you would expect from all inclusive ( I do love the complainers) there was always something different and plenty of it, the staff were always kind and helpful and always smiling, I reckon that if you have a problem with staff them take a look at yourself cos they might just have had a problem with you? word of advice, don't sit outside to eat, the wasps will drive you insane, we gave up on two occasions and had to find a table inside, again no problem for the hotel staff only too pleased to help. We went as a couple (grandma had kids) lots of kids there, perfectly safe and they all seemed to be having a good time. We read about the hill down to the beach and my god it really is a hill, beware, it's painful coming back up. beach bar was perfect, beach was great, overall very good and we would def go back. Staff were great, thanks to all.
Overall, the title says it all, this hotel is much better than you would normally expect at this price range, particularly in Greece.
The hotel is located about 200 metres up a quiet lane off the main road in open countryside. It's extremely well run and maintained, the rooms are comfortable with air con (no extra cost) and by Greek standards, have nice bathrooms. Our room (room 70) was on the top (2nd) floor at the rear of the hotel with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside - it even had 2 balconies to enjoy it all from!
There is a good size pool to the rear with plenty of seating and a pleasant pool bar. There is also a tennis court and quite a large garden. The staff were always very friendly and helpful.
Only 2 negatives - the coffee at breakfast is terrible (!!), and also you need to be aware that the hotel does cater for groups of German teenagers at certain times of the year, celebrating the end of their studies. This inevitably means noise can be a problem at times, especially early evening with music from the pool bar and in the early hours of the morning when they return from partying! You can't blame them for this; they were noisy but unlike British teenagers they were well behaved, and when we approached the staff about it they were very pro-active in efforts to get the group to quieten down.
Although it was an issue at times it wouldn't put me off returning to the hotel - I'd just try to avoid the (limited) periods when the groups were staying.
The owners were very warm people, very accommodating and helpful to all our needs. The Studio was clean and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent, close walk to main street shops and the beaches. The pool area was lovely and relaxing and I would definitely recommend a stay at Villa Karmar, and stay there again if/when I return to Corfu.
Twelve kilometres north of Corfu Town, Dassia is a low-key resort, popular with North European couples and families on package deals. Lying on the main coastal road, it offers accommodation in large, modern hotels set in gardens. The long, narrow pebble beach has good water sports facilities and looks across the channel to Albania. Two kilometres north of Dassia, Ipsos is known for late-night bars and discos.
