"Weekend away"
This was a great hotel in a great location, we loved the quirkiness and age of the building the wonky corridors are really in keeping with the building of this age, there is an issue with parking which we wished it had been advertised as you need to book a parking space and we had not been informed. The living public areas were really good with roaring fires which were especially welcome on a very wet weekend Food wise Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, good service and we enjoyed both mornings that we stayed The food in the restaurant was good with a great selection of wine even by the glass, the only thing that let the stay the stay down was the length of time it took for food to arrive , the first time was a saturday night so we expected it to be busy although it was took 30 minutes for the bread and olives after ordering and only consisted of a two mall rolls which is a lot of money for what was delivered , The Sunday night was not busy but waiting staff surpassed themselves in taking over 45 minutes to deliver the bread and olives after ordering but hey we did get four rolls! they were so slow the the lady sitting to our side declined the main meal as it had taken so long to be delivered. We gave up waiting after half an hour between the main meal and the sweet course as we were left menus and no one came back to ask what we wanted, not what you expect on a quite Sunday evening i do think they need to improve the levels of sevice based on the quality of

"Comfy hotel with great new spa and pool"
We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Dartmoor and because it had an indoor swimming pool. The pool area with very imaginative jaccuzi, plus steam room and sauna was really well-planned and laid-out. The gardens of the hotel are very nice too, though it was too cool in early April to make much use of them. The hotel was comfortable but rooms not spacious and perhaps needing a bit of a refurbishment; however they were clean and well serviced. We'd be glad to return at some point.

"Delightful and cosy"
We had a lovely overnight at the hotel. The owner greeted us on arrival and provided details of places to eat nearby and the pub he recommended was excellent! The hotel have hi-viz jackets and torches available if you want to walk to the pub after dark. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in for a long while and we loved the skylite window!

    Pocket Guide: Dartmoor Dartmoor Hotels

It's little wonder that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle made Dartmoor the setting for his Sherlock Holmes adventure, The Hound of the Baskervilles. It's a suitably misty, wild and isolated landscape, with scores of prehistoric remains littering the landscape and at its heart Britain's most secure prison at Princetown. But don't worry, because elsewhere the mood is the polar opposite! Dartmoor is also home to pretty cascades and waterfalls, bubbling streams and picturesque thatched cottages. In the valleys around the moor's edges you can enjoy cream teas, and there's a great choice of accommodation too, from B&Bs to plush hotels.

Hotels in Devon for Dartmoor Attractions

The Ministry of Defence uses some of Dartmoor as a firing range (watch out for the warning red flags), but there are plenty of other parts of the moor to enjoy when you're based at a Devon hotel in the area. You can find the main information centre at Princetown and from there be directed to points of interest such as Hound Tor. This hilltop setting is home to a substantial medieval settlement that was inhabited from Saxon times down to about 1300. Becky Falls just to the north has a viewing platform from which to see the 72-foot drop of the waterfall. To the northwest of there is Castle Drogo, an impressive mock castle completed by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1930.

Out and About on Dartmoor from Devon Hotels

When you're exploring Dartmoor on a day trip from your guesthouse, hotel or B&B in Devon you'll be struck by the wild, untamed beauty of the landscape away from the pretty towns and villages on the fringes. This awesome and seemingly inhospitable landscape has been the home of the famous Dartmoor Ponies since the 10th century, and they seem to be perfectly happy with it even in the winter! You'll occasionally see these small, tough ponies from a distance, peacefully grazing and enjoying their freedom.

When visiting Dartmoor from your hotel or guesthouse, be sure to see Buckland-in-the-Moor, a picturesque thatch-and-granite village that could easily stand in for Bilbo Baggins's Shire. Dartmoor is studded with unexpected delights such as this, contrary to many preconceived impressions.
