Loved the location and staff. Hotel is stunning although our rooms felt a bit dated (maybe I've just stayed in too many boutique hotels though)!
Food in Smiths was good and the waitress a delight - nothing was too much trouble.
Great for an 'away from it all' break as no mobile phone reception - luckily they have wi-fi that works. I will definitely be returning!

Really nice place to stay. Lovely roaring fire in the bar area. Excellent service from the lady on reception, bar staff, waiting staff. Comfortable room. Food was excellent in the restaurant. We stayed 2 nights, was sorry to go home !
We expected a traditional, old fashioned English country pub, and that is exactly what we found! Friendly staff, a nice sized room with a window that opened, and an amazing Sunday roast all made for a great stay last week-end.

Breakfast has to be requested at time of booking rather than on arrival at hotel. This was an unwelcome surprise, but there were good breakfast places close by. Staff did not seem very happy or particularly welcoming.
Carol and the team are really lovely. Fantastic room, with the best shower we have ever used, easy to use and fun being deluged with tons of hot water. The room was great, quiet, very clean and an excellent base for exploring Devon. The veggie breakfast was the best we have come across in the UK. Many are rubbish, but this was very, very good. I would recommend The Oak at South Brent to anyone and look forward to staying there again. Great CAMRA real ales too. Really awesome!!
A fascinating contrast of wild empty landscapes, manicured beauty spots and picture-postcard villages, Dartmoor is one of southern England's last wildernesses, where ponies, sheep, and cattle graze freely. Most popular for day-trippers is the south east of the moor with wooded valleys and cascading streams. The central and northern parts feature wild open moorland with imposing rock outcrops ('tors'). The whole area is a walker's paradise.
