A Quiet and Family-Friendly Beach Hotel
I stayed at the Marriot Amani Beach for a week at the end of September, and was very impressed. The property consists of 10 bungalows set in extensive gardens, facing onto a private beach. The bungalows are lovely and very well-maintained, with a place to sit out and a hammock if you don't want to spent all your time down at the beach. Breakfast and dinner are taken up at the main house, with luncheon, coffee, etc - available at the "Beach Bar". Although the menu is relatively limited, there was fresh seafood everyday that I was there - so, in fact, the choice very easy. Service was excellent, without at all being obtrusive. It was all just at the right level of helpful and welcoming - while also very much leaving you to your own devices once you had settled in. On most days there were a few families playing on the beach/in the pool, some couples in the sun loungers, and some single travellers curled up in the hammocks with books. Although it's a Marriot, I understand this was taken over from a previous chain (Protea), and so feels rather more rustic as compared with a city Marriot. There's also no tv or wifi in the bungalows themselves, although this is available at the main house. There's not much around, so be prepared for very quiet evenings. So, as ever, it depends on the vacation you want: if you're looking for a quiet, family-friendly, beach getaway, I think this is a lovely spot, and fantastic value for what you get. I would definitely come again.
