Nice location

Posted 21-Sep-2017
Had a lovely stay here for our anniversary. It's in a great location and has good trails nearby. The only comment was the restaurant. We had dinner on one of our stays felt that it was quite over priced for what we had. We were really up for trying to afternoon tea the following day and asked one of the waitresses whether they had any availability to which she said no they are fully booked. The following day we went for a long walk and came across many beautiful views. I decided to just try ringing the restaurant to see if anyone had cancelled their booking for the afternoon tea and when I spoke to a young chap called Matt he said that they've got availability!!! We rushed back and made it by 30 minutes before they stopped serving it. I saw on the booking pad that they had no bookings from 3-5 which is when we wanted to reserve for. So it was unfortunate that the first waitress told us wrong information making us rush back to have our afternoon tea. Other than that all over aspects was good.

Nice clean hotel

Posted 27-Jul-2017
Pros: A touch of luxury.
Location: Ideal location for walks. Grasmere village is very close by and Windermere is a short drive away.
Recently stayed here with my daughter, our room had a stunning view of the valley and was very comfortable. Staff were extremely polite and helpful I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Robotic service - smiles

Posted 16-Jun-2017 on Hotels
My experience has been underwhelming- while the service was good, you feel that the staff are just getting things done, and have no interest in your well being and not a single one had a ready smile on their faces. You would not expect any greetings made sincerely . E.g.: at breakfast, the lady tells you to wait for a table (no greetings, no smile), then goes off to find you a table, sits you down, explain the hot & cold locations (stating facts, no smiles). E.g.: same treatment st the spa - receptionist was efficient, masseur did her job, but no one truly listened to the pains/aches when it was stated in questionnaire. Felt like they just had to tick the box to say they have gone through the procedure. During massage, she asked if pressure was ok, and did nothing when I asked for a stronger massage (which I indicated on the form). Overall, I feel that morale was very low or lack of staff training. Spoke to some residents and they felt the same. Efficient but very cold service !

Lovely hotel in the centre of everything

Amazing hotel with the most helpful of staff! Food is impeccable along with the service. Only let downs were that the double bed in the room was 2 singles pushed together and the spa is a lot smaller than anticipated. But everything else was amazing and would defiantly return!

Beautiful view but never again

Posted 11-Apr-2017
The bed mattress is horrible and gave me and my wife a backache every morning. I slept on the floor on the 4th night. The hotel is short staffed. Sometimes I call the reception but they don't answer or call back and when they answer, they do after 5 or more rings. There is no gym at the hotel. There is no fridge in the room.
