January weekend away

Posted 25-Jan-2016
Pros: The fires and the staff
Cons: The outside looks like a butlins holiday camp
Location: Location is bang on the M6 which whilst convenient doesn't make it a pretty location.
Lovely hotel inside with several log burning fires creating a pleasant environment. Staff were very friendly and helpful - happy to do table service in the bar and always attentive. Spa is very new and clean with a well furnished gym. One of the best breakfasts I have had in a hotel. Will look to go again.

Good hotel - does what it says on the tin

Posted 07-Dec-2015
Pros: Its a good hotel for the area and does what it says on the tin
Cons: walls are thin, the bathrooms need upgrading
We went to the Lake District to visit family. As I originally lived there, I knew the hotel and its reputation. In the last 20 years I can't say that anything has really changed. Its a good quality hotel with good amenities but nothing outstanding. Its the best hotel in the town and a reasonable price. We didn't do the breakfast but instead as a local we went to The Rooster cafe - it doesn't look much (in fact attached to the side of a petrol station it doesn't look great!!) but the food is amazing and loads of it for the price! Back to the hotel...the bathroom is slightly dated and grimy but the cleanliness was fine. The only interaction with the staff was check in and check out which was swift and efficient. At the time of our stay the floods were taking hold, there was a christmas party night and a wedding the following night, so the hotel was extremely busy. You could hear the people in the room next to us coughing and watching TV which was rather off putting......

Odd checking in process

Posted 02-Nov-2015 on Hotels
The check-in lady was disinterested, distracted and avoided eye contact. Simple questions by me, met with silence, very odd

A very pleasant half way point

Posted 19-Oct-2015
Pros: As above
Cons: No
Location: See above
Coming from the South on holiday to Scotland this stopover night proved to be all we wanted. Very good hotel , close to motorway and with a "character town" 10 minutes walk away. The Hotel gave us all we wanted, good room, good leisure facilities and good food. Excellent!

Lovely hotel with good facilities.

Posted 30-Sep-2015
Good location for what we wanted. Good facilities. The room we booked was a deluxe room, although it had everything in it and was lovely, it was fairly small to others we have stayed in. Nothing wrong with the room though.

Nice hotel but tired

Posted 26-Sep-2015
Pros: As above
Cons: Total refurbishment of hotel rooms and more competitive prices in restaurant to encourage more use from customers
Location: Ideally located to motorway , walking distant to town, variety of shops , nicely sited for the lakes and travelling around.
The good points ,the swimming pool and spa were excellent ,all staff very pleasant and welcoming, the rooms were as described but decor def needs refurbishing, we ate in the restaurant first night choice not very inspiring but quality of offerings was good my only comment would be how expensive the restaurant was for what was on offer ,cannot understand how they can justify breakfast prices !! Must be down to corporate customers. All in all our visit was enjoyable and would consider using this hotel again ,but would definitely eat out. In all honesty with tired decor would only say it warranted top end 3 star maximum.

Recommended for a Lakes stop off

Posted 23-Sep-2015 on Hotels
Excellent room and facilities. A great place for exploring the northern Lakes. We are a retired couple but it was self-evident ther the hotel was excellent for young families, who seemed to be loving the pool especially.
