This is a beautiful old country house with lots of original feature. Our room was spacious, spotless and very comfy. The shower was amazing! Shared areas in the hotel were equally impressive, the bar areas and rooms off to sit and have a quiet drink were lovely, with open fires contributing to the cosy feel. The hotel is a few minutes drive from Ambleside so well situated for the town. I would definitely recommend.

Lovely staff! Comfortable picturesque rooms
Lovely hotel- room was big with comfy bed and gorgeous view of the lake and great room amenities. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful even down to all the lovely cleaning staff! Nice bar. Only issue was we got locked out when we returned after midnight and no one had mentioned we’d need a code to get in! Service on breakfast was very slow / came at different times I think they were short staffed. It was raining so we did miss a pool/gym but a great hotel and I’d recommend for a short break!

During the summer months, the public areas by the lake in Windermere can get considerably busy, so to be able to offer our guests private access to the lake is a real treat.I hope that we can welcome you back to the Cragwood once again.

Cragwood Country House is a gorgeous hotel on a lovely property. The views of the lake from the hotel were spectacular. HOWEVER... we stayed in room 1, the Honeymoon Suite. It is the best room in the hotel. The shower in the room is COMPLETELY USELESS. One CANNOT take a shower without flooding the bathroom floor. This is due to the design of the shower / tub. So. I had a shower after dinner and before bed, like I always do. Next thing we know, hotel reception calls us to tell us that water from our bathroom is leaking through to the ceiling below! Then my husband has a shower and the same thing happens. Like that's OUR problem and we're supposed to fix it? The guy who called, who was apparently the supervisor on duty, was totally ineffective at dealing with the situation, was unable to find or even offer a solution other than to give us the key for room 2 - across the hall - to shower in the next morning. Meanwhile, while all of this is playing out, my husband and I just really wanted to go to bed, as we had been up and traveling since 4:00 that morning. But we had to wait up while this situation was "dealt with." In fact the supervisor wanted to send someone up to our room right away to attempt to fix the problem - that was NOT acceptable since we were both in bed at that point. And the worst part is, according to the supervisor this happens FREQUENTLY... And they have done NOTHING to FIX this problem other than to keep blaming it on their guests! Do NOT recommend!!!

It is a shame that you have written this review. Clearly everyone is entitled to an opinion but sadly this review is lacking accuracy. You are correct that you managed to flood the bathroom. This happened because you had a shower and didn't put the curtain inside the bath. The bath is a roll top bath with plenty of character but of course if the curtain is left outside of the bath, water won't stay in the bath and sadly in this instance it has flooded the bathroom. As a result, we are replacing the bath with a special roll top that can be attached to the wall to stop any user error and subsequent flooding. Clearly this was a mistake and the review and specific damning wording of our team isn't quite fair.I am sorry that this left a negative perception of your stay at Cragwood.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at Cragwood and would recommend it highly - lovely views of the Lake - very comfortable hotel and the young members of Staff were particularly pleasant and very helpful. We only ate in the bar as the Restaurant was fully booked unfortunately - our fault we should have booked ahead. Our b'room and bathroom were really very nice - tastefully decorated and warm... Overall, a delightful experience...

Perfect retreat for a couple
What an amazing place. Beautiful scenery, right on the lake, we walked straight down to it from the bar terrace. Staff so friendly and helpful, beautiful baby windows to sit in with a drink.

Amazing hotel stay in the lakes
Amazing stay at the Cragwood! Couldn’t recommend enough. We brought our dog and the hotel was very dog friendly. The hotel was clean and the grounds and view of the lake was beautiful! The breakfast was also amazing, with a choice of a hot meal as well as cereals, yogurts and croissants! Would 100% go again.

The hotel location was lovely (right by Windermere Lake), and the hotel room itself was nice enough, but the decor was dated and the food could have been better. It did not state that dinner was pre fixed and the only a la cartel options were at the bar. The staff were attentive and friendly. Overall a nice one night stay, but the interior design of the hotel needs a facelift.

This hotel was so great it was hard to leave. Wonderfully friendly staff, beautiful common spaces, and fantastic food. It's right by the water and has beautiful walking paths. I'll definitely be back.

Expected better: we arrived before 5pm and were told there weren’t any reservations for dinner so we had to go elsewhere. Also, the king bed was actually two twins pushed together and one of them was quite used with an indent so you couldn’t move to the middle. One of the rooms(9) we reserved had absolutely no internet nor cellular service. When we mentioned it to a staff member they gave us access to the “staffs” login; however, that did not help as the distance to the antenna(WAP) remains the same. We were also told the earliest we could have breakfast would be 9:30a as they had no room in the earlier times. They managed to provide us with a DIY option, milk and cereal, something but it certainly wasn’t the hot breakfast we had included with our rate.

The property was full of character with the most beautiful gardens right next to the lake. The restaurant meal was excellent. The only negative was that I was in the older part of the hotel and the walls seemed very thin as the room next to me had their tv on at 7am in the morning and I could hear every word.
