Great stay at Casa Ordonez!
We spent two nights in Cuenca to visit one of our workers and while there stayed in the Casa Ordonez. We stayed there because the reviews were so good. We were impressed by the friendliness of the owner and his staff. They were quick to meet all our needs, put us in a better room the second night, arranged tours for us and we just appreciated them so much. Breakfast was very good and different every day!

Grand hotel in the heart of old town
This is a wonderful hotel with great service in the heart of old town but off the main street, thus avoiding the street noise. The owner, Alberto, is a wonderful man who had lived in the USA and returned to this family property to turn it into a hotel. The rooms are historic just as the building but very comfortable. The location is quite walkable to many of the historic sites, museums, and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Perfect hotel in all areas
100% recommend staying here! We were greeted by the warm and friendly Alberto, who explained that this hotel was a family home at one point- very beautiful and well maintained with pride. It has so much character. During our 5 day stay, Alberto and all staff members were ultra helpful and charming. Alberto helped us arrange transportation to Vilcabamba and recommended things to do in Cuenca. I never expect people in other countries to speak English to us, but Alberto has perfect English, which is a nice bonus! Location is perfect- about a 5 minute walk to Parque Calderon and the bustling city center. There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby so you can take your pick with any type of cuisine. Our room had a private bathroom and was spacious. Breakfast each morning was prepared fresh with varying items from day to day. One morning is French toast and fruit, the next is avocado toast and eggs. We were always pleasantly surprised!! I cannot complain about one thing. If you are still debating which hotel for your Cuenca stay, you should choose this one.

My brother and I very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Ordonez. It is centrally located in the historical district amidst all the sights. Our room was large, clean and spacious. The staff was attentive, courteous, and the breakfasts were very good. The only minor drawback is that that our room named, Isabel, had an interior view rather than a street view so it may feel a bit claustrophobic to some guests. Still, I highly recommend Casa Ordonez for visitors to the city of Cuenca!!

One of those few memorable hotel stays
This place has a unique charm that made us feel at home and also taken back in time. The care that the Ordonez family has taken to maintain a past-era Ecuadorian house built with an old Spanish design is tremendous. The house has been restored in a classic vintage. The 1890s house still has some original era doors and other features. For those features that are gone, the Ordonez family has done a remarkable job of getting replicas from the same era. The furniture, too, brings one back in time. Few hotels have a unique and extraordinary character that inspires a guest who walks in. This hotel is one of the few I’ve experienced. In addition, Alberto and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming, making us feel at ease. They helped us in advising on tours, transportation, festivals, etc. They have great advice that helped us arrange affordable visits in Cuenca and the area. One of the other great aspects of this hotel is the location, right in the historical center of Cuenca, and only two blocks from the main square with the historical cathedrals. The location is ideal. Finally, the value of the hotel is outstanding. In other countries, this hotel would be very expensive. Yet this hotel, which has a “hostal” sign in front, is priced like a hostel yet has the ambiance and feeling of a high-end luxury boutique hotel. We extended our stay in Casa Ordonez and Cuenca because we so enjoyed the stay in both the lovely city and the lovely hotel.

Centrally located
It’s historic and though it could use an upgrade or two, it would take away from the history and so I would recommend it leave everything the way it is. It’s a nice experience and would recommend it without reservation

A beautiful old hotel that has been updated with modern conveniences. Very close to the main square, the new Cathedral, etc. The interior courtyard is a lovely place to have breakfast, and their is a couple comfortable lounge upstairs. The staff are very helpful, and the breakfasts delicious. We have already recommended this hotel to friends who will stay here.

Charm, beauty and comfort
This hotel provided us with the best stay during our 5 weeks of travel in Equador. Originally a family home now transformed in to a beautiful hotel that holds all the charm of Cuenca. If you book somewhere else you will miss the best! Perfectly located, the owner went out of his way to accommodate us and helped with additional bookings at our next location.

A wonderful Colonial home from home
This is not your typical cookie cutter hotel....... its a chance to experience life in a tastefully restored Colonial home. Each room is unique as are the mostly antique furnishings. What makes this place really special though is the friendliness of the staff and the owners, who truly go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

What a deal !
I travel to World Heritage Sites and I like to stay in the downtown areas where I can walk to historical buildings and sites. Casa Ordonez is a beautifully restored 1890's home with about 10 rooms to rent. Alberto, an owner along with his wife Diana and sister Maria, is a super, friendly host who forced me to use my Spanish even though he speaks perfect English, because he knew that improving my Spanish was a goal of mine. When I left, after 5 days, I considered him to be not just a host but also a friend. He takes great pride in his restored home which his grandfather purchased. This is not a place for someone just seeking luxury. It is a place for those looking for something really interesting. It does of course have modern facilities such as high speed Wi Fi in your room, a flat screen TV, and a small but modern bathroom with lots of hot water in the shower. It is a bit cool because the ceilings in the place are about 16 to 20 feet high and consequently I think it would be almost impossible to heat. But just plan for that. Wear a warm sweater and you'll be fine. If you want old and very interesting you have to compromise. They also serve really nice breakfasts as part of the package, and the price per night, including taxes, is less than half of what I'd have to pay in Canada. What a deal !.

Beautifully restored gem in El Centro Historico
This historic hotel got an award for best renovation and you can see why. They've done a beautiful job with each room. They've put a lot of thought into small things to contribute to guests' comfort. Despite the fact that the street out front was being torn up when we were there, the extra window insulation made it quiet enough for an afternoon nap. The staff are very thoughtful & they give you a nice breakfast. Thumbs up!

Cozy in Cuenca
Had a great experience at this beautiful hotel. Marie and the rest of the staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. Fresh flowers in the room is a nice touch. I had a quiet room on the upper floor with a small window opening to the lobby area but it still felt private. A nice breakfast is served daily. If you like personalized and friendly service, then I would recommend this hotel.

Like a B & B in a small hotel!
Casa Ordonez feels like a B and B, with good-sized rooms, roses in guest rooms, hand-painted ceilings, and traditional Ecuadorean furniture. The hotel has been in the owner's family for over 100 years, and you can feel the pride they take in maintaining this tradition. Breakfast was huge, service was great, everyone was friendly and helpful. The hostal is located in the old city, just a short walk from the cathedral, the central park, the Panama hat museum and workshop - really a great location! Loved our stay here!

Most Professionally ran Hotel I've ever stayed at.
From the very first second my wife and I stepped into the over 100 year old Casa Ordonez I knew it would be a great experience. The Owners are family and treat you as though you are one of them without the awkwardness. They are fluent in English which makes communication very easy and also can recommend an English speaking driver/guide (Angel) to take you all over Cuenca and its outskirts as well. I will not list all of the extras and things they have done for us because I do not think it's possible for them to duplicate such care to everyone. The Location is great and they made reservations for us at a restaurant close by considered by many locals to have the best CUY in Cuenca. Also, in our 19 days in Ecuador this place had the best wifi out of all the hotels(some very high end) for those who will need it. Thank you Casa Ordonez for ending our trip all around Ecuador on a high note!

Casa Ordonez is a beautiful bed and breakfast with a lot of history. The rooms are great, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the staff was very accommodating. Alberto (owner)and the entire staff were outstanding and made us feel welcome upon arrival and like family by the time we departed. This was our first trip to Cuenca and will be staying at the Casa Ordonez when we return. The location is convenient to everything and Alberto is a master chef who delights in making his guests a great breakfast. This hotel has a beautiful and calming interior courtyard, upper library & entertainment area, and is very secure.

I booked my stay at Casa Ordoñez because of the many positive reviews I had read online. My experience matched what was said in the reviews. Alberto and everyone working at the hotel treated me and all of the guests with respect and offered excellent service. Not for us
The room had no window to the outside. It was extremely hot in the room, with no airflow. The bathroom smelled and there was no way to vent it. Bed was uncomfortable. Great staff, based on other good reviews, perhaps we just got the worst room. Unable to sleep because of the hot, stuffy room.
