The hotel is on the beach and if you are a experienced wind or kitesurfer it will be heaven however although lessons are available this place is not for beginners because the wind is strong offshore and the lagoon for practise is not always accessible because of the way the tide changes only being in at full moon and rarely deep enough. To use the lockers you have to be a qualified surfer because kite storage and jet ski rescue comes as a package. The lessons are 180 euros for 3 hours. The instructors are experienced. Cesare was an excellent instructor aswell as Cuba. The kite repair shop was excellent. The hotel and food was very good although entertainment was basic.
"Highly recommended. Calm, relaxing - near beach."
We stayed in a Senior suite which is exactly as described on the web site. The hotel is truly lovely with fabulous staff.
The beach is only a 3 minute walk plus many restaurants and bars all within 5- 15 minutes. However you have the best restaurant in Costa Calma on your doorstep... The Terraza Del Gato, do not miss it!
Stayed end of July 2015. Lovely hotel close to the beach. Great facilities for children. Staff very friendly. Clean hotel. Half board facilities also very good with delicious food. Would definitely stay again.
A nice quiet hotel with no kids running about.
My only gripe was the dress code for the un-fancy dinner buffet. I was sent back to put on long trousers despite other men also wearing shorts & some women wearing very short shorts.
The food was great. Really good variety and it never ran out.
Room was OK, pretty clean. Nice size. Twin beds. Our fridge didn't work so we asked for a replacement which was quickly done.
We did suffer a bit from general noise. We were on the seventh floor (which is actually the sixth as for some reason there is no second floor) and outside our room there is an opening which let in noise from outside the hotel and the wind - which was constant - was quite noisy. Would recommend any other floor apart form the seventh if you want more quiet.
Staff were friendly and helpful and they accommodated our requests in terms of room location etc but English is limited. The hotel caters primarily to Germans, so English is the third language.
The hotel was relatively quiet. Was some queuing for some of the food at times - Germans seem to love queues more than the English, but this isn't a criticism.
The outdoor pools were large and there were more than enough sun loungers. Unfortunately due to the wind it was really possible to spend much time around the pool so it was pretty deserted. The indoor pool was a godsend.
Overall a pleasant experience.

In front of the bus stop.
Next to the beach (I suggest to go walk to the sand beach, the one link to the hotel is with nibbles)
Great food, all kind of drinks inclusive as well from morning till night.
Salty swimming pool, very nice.
Lovely place to stay for resting few days
This was our first visit to the Esmeralda Maris but have stayed in the Esmeralda Hotel opposite for the past 14 years. It was a great experience for us doing self-catering, although on this occasion breakfast was included which was superb with plenty of food on offer, including cooked breakfast. The apartment was roomy with a good third bed in the lounge for the third person in our party. We did have our evening meal in the Restaurant of the Maris which was reasonable but felt we could do our own cooking for the rest of our stay which worked out so reasonably priced with good cooking facilities in our apartment. We could then enjoy our evening meal at our leisure on the superb balcony with wonderful sea views. We would recommend the Esmeralda Maris to everybody and we will certainly be back there next year - probably for two visits . You cannot get better surroundings and scenery than the Costa Calma. Thank you for your help in booking this for us.

Turkish-style complex with 82 self-catering bungalows set 700 metres from Sotavento Beach and one kilometre from shops …More
This quiet purpose-built resort marks the start of the Playa de Sotavento, a golden sandy beach that stretches for many miles, becoming picture-postcard perfect at neighbouring Risco del Paso. The beach may be less dramatic at this point but is has good facilities with sunshades, shops and a choice of beach bars close by. Windsurfing is very popular here with a school right in front of the hotels.
