Miserable and abrupt reception lady on checkout, dirty room. Windowsills, skirtings and air con vents were dirty. There was hair in the shower - from prior guests?

Nice modern hotel with a large garden and swimming pool. Staff are particularly helpful and friendly. Breakfast is very good. The dinner served in the restaurant is also excellent. The smaller rooms facing away from the sea are a little depressing, best to spend the extra for a sea view and balcony. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes walk from the sea & bar/restaurants up a moderate hill.

Good location, good food and friendly staff. Very quiet second week in June. The rooms are a bit lacklustre but are fine. Air conditioning wasn’t great. Everything else was great, would definitely return.

The staff were exceptionally helpful when I found I had some travel problems. The dinner and breakfast was of a high standard with very good service. Location was good. Modern bright and spotless.

Great hotel in a great location
We had a fantastic time here. The hotel has beautiful grounds and gardens with a huge swimming pool for the size of the hotel. There is a private gate to access the street down to the seafront which is less than three minutes away. The rooms are large, comfy and kept scrupulously clean. The bathrooms are glass fronted, which may be off-putting to some. Breakfast is excellent and varied. We ate once in the restaurant and were impressed. All in all, for a higher-end break, it is highly recommended. The local area is popular with domestic tourists (I think half of Barcelona has a villa here) and is bustling at weekends. The beaches are clean and have lifeguards. The town ones can be busy, but you can walk to deserted coves with turquoise sea easily. There are many good restaurants, a la carte prices are similar to higher-end UK restaurants, but you can get set menus for €20-30. The seafood is excellent quality. Local public transport isn't the best, we hired a car from Girona airport, which I'd recommend as you can get out to many of the historic sights and towns in the area easily. Begur, Palafrugell, Palamos etc. Girona itself is an easy 40 minute drive away, and highly recommended.

The hotels situation is good, a few minutes walk to the sea front. The grounds and communal areas are pleasant. Breakfast is good and frequently replenished, although it is definitely self~service. However we paid a supplement for a side sea view and superior room and must have been allocated the worst room in the hotel and despite the fact that we emailed in advance requesting a good view we overlooked a dirty flaking wall shielding more than half the view Our room and particularly the bathroom bore no resemblance to those shown in the photos. We had to climb into the bath (with shower curtain) to use the an old shower rose. The hotel has chosen to refurbish the standard rooms first but continue to charge extra for a very old and shabby bedroom,bathroom and balcony. Despite asking to change rooms we were only offered one alternative the bathroom and view of which were worse than our allocated room. People were coming and going on a daily basis so we could have been moved. The hotel room spoiled our holiday and was not a true reflection of that advertised and totally overpriced.

For this reason, we could not make any changes to the type of room that you wanted. We understand for superior room the rooms with terrace and views over the pool, garden and sea. The problem of booking sometimes for these agencies is that requests to us do not never reach us. Wonderful hotel a few minutes walk to the beach and town. Staff are extremely attentive. Our room was comfortable and on the far end away from the town's bell tower. Other family members were on the other end closer to the bell tower and had trouble sleeping because of the bell tower chiming every 15 minutes. The outdoor pool was surprisingly big. We would definitely stay here again.

Calella de Parafrugell - A gem at the Costa Brava
The small coastal town Calella de Parafrugell is a gem. It has preserved its charm as a little ancient fisher village in a beautiful spot at the Costa Brava. Hotel Alga is not directly located at the coast, but just a few min walk away. Some of the rooms offer a great view over the village to the sea / ocean. In general, the setup and interior of the hotel is very nice and comfortable. However, our check-in experience could have been more pleasant.

Everything was lovely. Service was impeccable and friendly. Room was beautiful and well laid out. Only concern was driving directions were virtually non existent. Address was impossible to put into gps without going around in circles. Wasted over two hours just trying to find the place. Address MUST be shown on web sites, including suburbs name and exactly how to enter address into gps. We finally ran into a kind, English speaking gentleman who literally led us to the hotel which was over ten miles from where we met him. Calling the hotel, which we did, received a very kind but unhelpful response, since they said that the address had changed recently.

Family room was excellent. Very large and spacious for our family of four. Easy short walk down a well-paved road into a gorgeous little town and beach with harbor. Would highly recommend this town and this hotel. Hotel was very accommodating and knowledgeable for gluten-free concerns with our daughter who has celiac disease. We also found every restaurant we visited to have a very strong working knowledge to accommodate gluten-free needs.

Great hotel
Been to a few hotels in calella De palafrugell now, and each ones have different bits that we prefer. Loved eating breakfast outside round pool, breakfasts plentiful but a little repetitive. Preferred breakfasts at Port Bo. Gardens and decor of hotel are beautiful Rooms great. Generous size, had a bath which we asked for but which was a bit awkward as the plug end was behind the fixed shower screen and you had to get in shower to put in plug. The safe in wardrobe was at difficult angle to key in code too. Only little things, overall it was fab hotel where hopefully we will stay again.

Hotel Alga was great!
We had a newer room at Hotel Alga, which had a private deck. It was beautiful. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk to the town and the beach. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and they have a great, reasonably priced restaurant. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend this spot.

Firstly, not 4* in my opinion. However, nothing to complain about- this is a small hotel in a great location. Area is full of local restaurants and lots of places to explore. Downside is a limited bar service but that might be due to timing- we were here at the end of May. Lovely reception staff and a warm welcome at 01:00! Would love to return!

Really nice hotel with super friendly staff who were without exception really happy to help everytime they were asked to. Very spacious lobby aea with plenty of quiet aeas to sit. The swimming pool and the area around it were really good with plenty of seating, including an outside eating aea. The only disappointing experience was our bedroom - black mould around the shower and noise from the corridor, beds looked really cheap but were surprisingly comfortable. The hotel is an easy stroll from the beach which is absolutely lovely.

This hotel is wonderful. All the staff are extremely helpful and welcoming and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. We wouldn't normally eat in a hotel in which we are staying as we prefer to try out all the local restaurants and usually hotel food isn't that great but the food here was really good and of a very high standard. If you like flashy, soulless hotels with more style than substance then this is not the place for you but if you like a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere then you won't be disappointed. We noticed several holiday makers that were being warmly welcomed by the staff on their first day as if they were family and I think that this in one of those hotels which you return to again and again. We will definitely be back.

Hotel Alga, Calella de Palafrugell.
Hotel Alga is a reasonable, modern (but not a tower block!) four star hotel at the back of Calella de Palafrugell, a short walk - via the nicely landscaped, terraced garden - from the hotel. Try to pick a room with a sea view - we were on other side, with a view over the car park at the front of the hotel (and noisy bin-collection at night!). There's a decent sized swimming (and toddlers') pool in the pleasant gardens - and table tennis, and a sort of tennis court. The breakfast is buffet style, fair, but not outstanding. Eggs (only scrambled), bacon - pre-cooked. Fresh bread, limited fruit selection, fruit juice not freshly squeezed, reasonable quality pastries and coffee-machine coffee. Dinner menu ambitious, but not always successful: carpaccio of pigs trotters best left to the pig, and foam of sea-urchin surprisingly (?) flavourless, but "mountain lamb" was a generous serving and tasty. Staff pleasant and helpful, and (especially in reception) good English.

Handy hotel for the beach and town.
Although I booked rooms on high floor, we had rooms on level 1. People above us noisy walking about back and forth in heavy shoes, banging doors crashing draws. Very disturbing for people in rooms below them. The gardens were really lovely and well maintained. Chairs and tables very attractively placed.

Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Great location, only 5 minutes walk into Calella de Palafrugell, and 10 minutes into Llafranc (down the main road, although you can walk down the coastal path which has lovely views). Best bits about the hotel - rooms were small and overlooked car park but were very comfortable with good showers and comfortable beds - air conditioning also worked. Only one small criticism is that there is no mirror in the bedroom. The breakfast was more continental but there was plenty of choice. The pool area was really excellent. No putting towels on sunbeds at the crack of dawn, very chilled. You could move your sunbed into the shade under a tree. Great sized pool. Didn't eat dinner at the hotel so can't comment. So many lovely restaurants to choose from in the area. Would definitely recommend and we may well return. Don't miss Chez Tomas (restaurant) in Llafranc.

The stay was fine. The hotel was nothing special and generally did not feel like a 4 star property. The room was ok but very basic. Where the place excelled was in the restaurant. I have never had dinner inc in a rate and presumed the standard would be nothing special. This was not the case and the chef/cook obviously has a bit of talent! Dinner was the saving grace!!

Stayed for a week at end of season. Nice hotel, helpful staff. Spacious public areas, nice bar, clean pool, large garden and terraced areas. Wi-Fi connection patchy; could be quite slow and became disconnected at times. Would have preferred a simple passphrase logon. Only had dinner in the hotel once; reasonable value; ok but not impressive. Typical menu for the area, similar to most we saw travelling around. Breakfast quite good, but don't expect much choice if you want a cooked breakfast. Overall, a pleasant place to stay and I would be happy to use it again if in the area.

Lovely hotel with helpful, friendly staff. Kept in immaculate condition with nice comfortable facilities. The garden and pool area are exceptional. Nice, varied buffet breakfast. Beautiful resort only a very short stroll from the hotel. Happy to recommend a stay here.
