The spiky Twelve Bens Mountains are the most famous part of Connemara, offering superb views of the whole of Galway on a clear day. There are dozens of walks marked out through the landscape, with trails along the ocean’s edge, or through the bog land, rich in wildlife and birds. Diamond Hill has a popular nature trail and circular walk, while to the north, the Maumturk Mountains are smaller, and quieter, which makes it great for those hoping to get off the beaten track.
