The Palace hotel in the city of Como is centrally located, just a few blocks from the main piazza, boat ferry dock, and the gorgeous Duomo. The building itself is a hodgepodge, partly elegant and partly low modern. Our lakeside, third floor room was small, and the ac didn't work reliably, but it served our needs adequately. The cafe attached to the hotel was outside our window, and the live entertainment was loud, and only occasionally listenable. An elevator was out, and we never saw anyone working on it, over five days. Staff were friendly, and very helpful.

The hotel is located in Como suburbia on a mountain overlooking the city of Como and the lake with the surprisingly spectacular view from a balcony of every room (we even stayed extra day because of it).
If you are a confident driver, you will share my excitement from the 5-km road from Como to the hotel, and finding a parking spot will be quite an entertaining challenge, since most of the empty spaces that don't block the streets are reserved for the registered residents only.
For the reluctant commuter-type drivers I recommend the funicular line that runs from Como center to within 1-minute walk from a hotel (5.50 euros round-trip, operates till midnight in summer).
Hotel personnel are inviting and helpful, but they speak only a few words in English.
Breakfast is minimal, but it matches the hotel price range.
The area is extremely quite at night (some might even say too quite) except for the neighboring church bells in the morning.
The town of Como looks much better from the hotel balcony, than it does from the city center. Nice base to make half-day car trips along the shores of lake Como.
Stayed here for two nights as wanted to visit Lake Como before travelling back to the UK.
Great location, historic town and lake como less than 10 mins walk.
Most staff helpful and polite, one female receptionist really went the extra mile.
Room was very clean, lovely shower. Beds were comfortable and air conditioning really helped as it was extremely hot.
Hotel has private garage for parking at €15 per night. However plenty of street parking which is free from 8pm until 8am so we kept costs to a minimum by parking on the street on day of arrival and moved the car to the garage for only one night.
Would definitely stay here again and would be happy to recommend it.

The hotel has a great location for touring the city and the other villages along the lake. Our check in process was seamless and our room was a nice size with a lovely view of the lake. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful - something for everyone, not a continental breakfast at all. We used the complimentary bikes for a stroll around the villages and enjoyed the restaurants recommended by the reception personnel.
This lakeshore town near the Swiss border has elegant parks and medieval buildings. It also has a busy industrial quarter based on silk manufacture, and is a fine place for shopping. A museum traces the history of Como’s textiles, which still supply the great fashion houses of Europe. Main sights are a handsome Gothic - Renaissance cathedral, and the Romanesque church of Sant’Abbondio, decorated with 14th-century frescoes.
