A stylish rural villa set on a ridge with far reaching views all around. The peaceful location is private and not overlooked and with 5000 metres (1 acre +) of land, it has a spacious outlook. Comares, a pretty hilltop village,and its traditional bars/restaurants/shops/bakery is a 10 minute drive. There is also a zip wire set in a natural area.. Comares can be seen from Villa Romo terrace. Bar El Nino is a welcoming family run rural bar-restaurant. You can enjoy a 20 minute walk to it or a very short drive. The accommodation is suitable for a large family or group of friends sharing. Built on one level it is child friendly and ideal for active elderly persons. Well behaved dogs are welcome , maximum 2. We have an excellent bbq and an Exterior Pizza Oven! Villa Romo is an excellent holiday location all year. Southern Andalucia gets over 300 days of sunshine typically. The Villa is equipped with electric fans in all rooms during the summer; these, together with wooden shutters and blinds on all windows, help keep the rooms cool. The open plan lounge/dining room features a brick fireplace for cosy winter warmth. Heaters are provided in all rooms during the Winter months . Comfortable all year. There is air con only in the Master Bedroom. We accept well behaved dogs, additional charge 50e . Village Life - Comares: Comares is a very picturesque pueblo blanco set high up in a dramatic location. It remains unchanged and has exceptional views in every direction. It is a pleasure to get lost following the narrow streets that turn steeply away from the main Plaza with its welcoming bar. Life is definately unhurried here!. There is also a bank with cash machine, two good local shops with fresh produce, a chemist, a tobacconist and 6 bar/restaurants with local dishes & tapas which will make your holiday at Villa Romo a convenient place to stay and a good base to come back to after doing some exploring. There is also a very popular zip wire and walking and climbing routes of different difficulties. You can get all the information in the Tourist kiosk at the entrance to the village. Town & Beach Facilities: Velez Malaga is a typical large market town with a nice Spanish feel, where you will find all your shopping requirements including a modern Shopping centre, a Cinema complex, a hospital, Aquavelis water park with slides, and some specialist shops. Market day is on Thursdays. Torre Del Mar, It s approx. 30 mins drive to the nearest Mediterranean Beach resort of Torre del Mar. Over 2 kms of wide sandy beaches are dotted with "Chiringuitos", beach bars specialising in fish & seafood and other restaurants which offer a variety of types of food. Along the promenade you will find entertainment for all ages. Rent a bike or go horse riding on the beach nearby. At Caleta de Velez, the local fishing port and marina 5 mins drive East, there are several excellent eateries next to the beach & opposite the boats. There you find company that organizes day boat trips. Benamargosa, Approx 20 mins drive from Villa Romo, you find Benamargosa, here you find two well supplied local supermarkets, a bank with a cash machine, a laundry, hairdresser, a gym, some bars, restaurant and a 24 hour emergency medical centre. Exploring Andalucia: Villa Romo is the perfect rural location from which to visit the key sights of Andalucia: Malaga City, with castle & hilltop fort, Picasso museum, great shopping and tapas bars the Port area, etc, is 1 hour. Granada & Alhambra Palace ( a must see!) is around 90 mins drive. Book in advance online/at local BBVA bank. Seville & Cordoba are a little further on good roads - but worth the effort. Antequera is less than 1 hour and full of attractive buildings and monuments. Torcal National Park is nearby.. All rooms were clean and of a very good size, master bedroom was huge, kitchen was great, very big with all mod cons. But it was the pool that took top honours, we had 8 in the pool at one time and it didn't feel a squeeze. I spent ages looking for the right pool as my daughter loves the water but is severely disabled but the stairs into pool made it easy for me to support her in and out. The other kids just loved it and literally they were in there at every opportunity 10/10 The location is very rural and in the 36°c heat just walking to the bin 70m away up the hill was challenging, so any idea we had about walking to the nearest cafe/shop was out, but having said that it didnt spoil our stay, we were 20 mins from the stunning Comares, 55mins from Nerja, 35 mins from Vélez-Málaga and 1hr from Benalmadena, given just how good villa was this was a drive i was willing to make, infact were already planning to come back. Honestly this was one of the best trips we've had, Carl was a very good host, with good communication and a very friendly laid back attitude. ##### Martin F. The perfect place to get away and appreciate a slower pace and Spanish way of life. Carl & Maria were attentive throughout. Only snag was getting to the house on day one, as we were driving from Toledo. Managed to find the house before dark; a plus! The home is quite remote and it took us about 30 minutes to get there from the small town of Rio Gordo. (My advice is to buy groceries before you arrive.) We were very happy to get 'home' and unwind and not have to brave the roads again after dark. With that being said, after day 2 we became quite comfortable navigating the mountain roads and enjoyed the sweeping views and beautiful wild flowers around every bend! Who needs Ronda when you have the mountains of Axarquia? Didn't take as many day trips as planned, due to the location, about 4 days on, 5 days at home/local. May was the perfect time to visit; not too hot, and the spring fairs and festivals are still going on! The house is well appointed, with just about everything you need to cook a good meal and relax with your group around the pool. Loved the outdoor grill as well (sadly did not get the chance to use the wood-fired pizza oven).The water got very hot and the waterfall shower heads are wonderful. There are plenty of linens, towels, and patio chair pillows to go around. Fans in every bedroom, although this time of year we did not really need them. Plan your fuel top ups and shopping trips as the nearest garage and supermarket is 20 minutes drive (Benamargosa) although Comares does have a limited shopping. My wife and I stayed at the villa at the end of September for a week. We arrived late on a Saturday so the complimentary welcome pack was indeed welcome. The road can appear challenging but that a price worth paying for the location, tranquillity and views. The villa was very comfortable and we are breakfast on the terrace each morning. We travelled to the local town with a slightly larger supermarket and found everything we needed. We also visited Velez Malaga for both shopping and beaches. On our last day we went to nerja and a town called frigiliana which were both really interesting and worth a second visit. The villa was very well equipped and had all the facilities we required . Carl was very helpful and gave us some useful pointers for restaurants etc. We would definitely recommend this villa and will be back again. ##### michael m. Outdoor space consisted of two old garden tables pushed together in veranda. BBQ and pizza oven to the side of drive with an old wooden picnic table. The pool was situated at the top of the driveway (we could not see the advertised garden area) cushions and outdoor chair/sofa cushions badly stained. The photos on website are definitely not a true reflection of what the villa looks like now. We suspect photos were taken a number of years ago. Owner ‘sniggered’ on the phone when we said we were sleeping in the car that night. The villa is well equipped and has a delightful pool and terrace area which are very well laid out. Carl and Maria are great hosts and very supportive and responsive. The villa represents very good value in rental terms. The roads can be a challenge if you are not used to them and you need to be organised on food shopping since the nearest good supernarket is 50 minutes round trip. The location is really peaceful and serene and we had a great 2 weeks enjoying the countryside and had lazy days by the pool as well as trips to Cordoba and Antequera (the latter only 50 minutes away). It takes about 50 minutes to get to Torre del Mar which is a great beach resort. During our stay, there was no hot water in the kitchen which it was not possible to fix whilst we were there, which was a bit inconvenient but overall, we had a great stay. Air con in master bedroom only and some of the bedroom fans could do with a bit of a clean. Our family had some great hikes nearby. Would thoroughly recommend to those wishing to see a different part of Andalucia, away from the crowds on the coast. Good restaurants nearby. Very accessible from Malaga airport. ##### Mark G.
