Great Hotel - considering the alternatives

I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities in the room, it was nice and clean. There are not too many decent options in Columbus, NE

Great place to stay!

Pros: The towels were so nice. They were the thick ones that don't get soppy and cold right away! Loved the hotel shampoo and the décor was modern.
Cons: get a hot tub
Location: We were there to watch the eclipse - but saw a nice park across the street and mini-golf in town that looked fun
We stayed here before watching the eclipse and were really impressed with this hotel. The breakfast was amazing! Loved the hash browns and biscuits and gravy. The hotel was full and they did a pretty good job of keeping up with all the people wanting breakfast. Only had to wait on coffee or clean plates twice.

Pros: Fairly easy to find.
Cons: Rooms freezing! (in summer) Only one check-in clerk, so a line was forming as he was on the phone for a long time. Rollaway beds needed.
This is a huge motel--however there is no elevator and you must carry all your stuff upstairs yourself if you happen to be unlucky enough to be on the 2nd floor. (As we were.) Also, the motel had no rollaway beds, so five family members had to sleep in 2 beds. The breakfast is large, but the staff had trouble keeping everything replenished, and they were frequently out of things.

Nice choice.

We entered the building and had to find someone to check us in, there was no one at the desk other than a single lady waiting, and another couple behind us. The room, which was huge & had a very comfy bed, was very nice, except for the musty smell from the A/C. The breakfast buffet was amazing. WiFi was hit & miss.

Disappointed

I read the reviews before booking and it seemed to be the best place to stay in the area, but I was disappointed when we arrived. The staff was friendly enough. I had to sign an agreement that we wouldn't smoke in the room or we'd held responsible for a $250 cleaning fee. Fair enough, we don't smoke, but when we walked in our room it wrecked of smoke. I called the front desk and Someone from house keeping came and said it there was nothing they could do, but could note we were responsible for it. Other couples we spoke with had the same issue, but their smell was stronger and they were moved. We also had tons of cockroaches EVERYWHERE!! One even crawled across our bed. I was so disappointed.

We failed to provide that for you and do apologize. I have addressed the smoking odor issue with our housekeeping staff. Our hotel is located very close to the river and at this time of the year we see a greater amount of a type of water bug. We have the hotel serviced regularly by a pest control company so please be assured those were not cockroaches.
