Overall pretty good for an hostel. In fact, better than some hotels. Don't count on using the hostel parging. There is only 17 spots and they are book a year in advance. Lucky there is a multi-storey parking very close for 20 euro a day. The only thing that bothered me was people slamming doors very late a night and very early in the morning, and people yelling in the street at night.

Good value compared to others in Cologne
Great option, good value budget hostel, lovely reception area with bar, coffee machines, snacks and live music on the Saturday evening. Friendly reception area staff. Good location for the Christmas markets. We booked a private quad room with private shower & toilet. The room had 2 bunk beds, not easy to get in the top bunks but comfortable sleeping once settled down. Room was too hot and window opening was minimal due to it being 2nd floor. Found a dirty bath towel left on one of the beds. There were no clean towels in the room, just a small bath mat. Beds were unmade, just a bare mattress so we had to make up our beds before unpacking, last thing you need after a long journey. But I’m guessing that’s what hostels are like (it’s the first time I have stayed in one) Overall the A&O Hostel was great, but we felt the housekeeping let it down.

Simple bed & shower
Customer service was SPOT ON! The beds comfy, room was hot! Cools with window cracked, but VERY NOISY. I recommend to ASK FOR FAN , which we learned at check out. Great hostel for younger travelers or low maintenance. Laundry on site. Downstairs bar. Breakfast available for add'l money. Close to local eateries and walkable to train station and old town. Note: Quiet hours are 10pm to 6am, but we didn't find guests respecting it.

We visited the a&o the second time this year and the condition of the hostel has immensely worsened. First we were in a room where the shower was destroyed. When we got a new room there was a visible patch of the door where someone had appearantly punched through the bathroom door. Walking by, we also saw a room door where the lock mechanism was exposed and wood chipped away. The caulk in the bathrooms was moldy and the cleaning must have suffered for a while. While some of the staff was friendly, others (especially the older lady down at the breakfast) couldn't communicate in English or German and was impudent when asked for anything. Hidden costs: upon arrival you will be asked to pay for bedsheets (3.50 a person).

Not expensive and only a short walk to the shopping quarter, Neumarkt and Köln Dom. Very nice staff. Very clean hotel. 👍👍👍👍

It was nice but I think you should separate those who snores because the whole night I couldn’t sleep , one guy was snoring, and if you would put the people who snores in the same room that would be more relaxing

Location of the property was good. Shower area was tiny, dirty and mouldy. Unfortunately the light was not working and the staff could only fix it the next day. Service is non-existent but I guess that is the standard in hostels. Beds must be made by yourself. No amenities in room such as fridge, kettle, etc. A no frills stay but price is not cheap during peak periods.

OK if on a tight budget
Everything was 'fine', rooms aren't the nicest or cleanest, but we needed a decent place to stay as cheap as possible for a budget trip. A little far out from the cathedral and central station, about 20 minute walk but fairly close to another station, Kiln Sud. Ok if it's the cheapest option for your dates but would pay a little more for a more central.location next time.

Dissapointing. Not cheap for what you actually get. Very small room (2 people cannot pass each other) and no air conditioning so very hot. No towels in the room so have to ask at reception. No bed sheets - they charge extra for that which was not made clear upon booking or arrival. Staff were moody and not particularly helpful, i.e. didnt give us towels, didnt tell us about bedsheets, couldn't/didnt want to give us any advice on where to go or what to do.

Bed sheets and towels are not automatically included if you book a bed in a dorm room because you are allowed to bring it with you and it gives us the chance to keep the basic price lower. Our staff should tell you about it at Arrival so we will take the comment and take a look at it to train them again. Air condition is not included in our standard but we offer some fans at the reception to make the hot times a little more comfortable. All together we will take care about your comments and it will help us to make our service even better for you. No frills, and that's ok.
You get what you pay for in these hotels, and that's not a bad thing. You need a place to sleep, shower and that's it? Done. No frills, no extras, no problems. A little noisy with guests slamming doors and checking out super early, coming in super late, but that's part of the deal. Inexpensive and clean, so you can't really ask for more than that for the price.

The place is ok as a base, but I feel like it is too expensive for what it offered. Pros: New contemporary furniture. Cons: no A/C, no linen on bunk beds ( we were asked to put it on ourselves), no mini fridge, no basic amenities...

Not the right spot when it's hot!
The hostel was great! Clean, enough space, lobby was nice but it was HOT and there is no A/C. The window cracks a tiny bit and there was no cross breeze. I'm not sure if this is normal weather in Cologne in June but we were miserable in the room because it was so hot and the beds were very hard.
