Face à la plage

Posted 16-Aug-2015

Great hotel

Posted 04-Jun-2015
Pros: It has a beautiful view across from the ocean and has a nice restaurant.
Cons: A softer bed
Location: It is located near many other restaurants and shops. Being across from the ocean was a plus. It was "Beautiful!"
The staff is very friendly and efficient. The hotel was clean and very comfortable. I recommend it to anyone who travels to Figueirara Da Foz

Great ocean view

Posted 24-Feb-2015 on Hotels
We stayed here while taking part in the Portuguese orienteering meeting. We were very impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of the staff, particularly the barman. The evening special menu was good value, although the service was very slow on 14th February when there was a large number of valentine diners. The ocean view from our balcony was spectacular and well worth paying extra for. The beach was great for walking on.

Lovely weekend away.

Nice clean hotel easy to find, good location, plenty of restaurants around. Good room with lovely balcony overlooking the seafront. Staff very attentive and helpful. Great dinner in the hotel restaurant at reasonable prices. Didn't have the breakfast so cannot comment on that. Only downsides were that the mattress was very hard and although there was plenty of hot water in the bathroom it could do with a bit of a makeover. Would definitely stay again and would recommend.

History & style

Posted 03-Jan-2015
Pros: location, ocean-view baconies (worth paying a little extra for), vintage style
Cons: Wifi!!! It's not free if it doesn't work and you end up having to pay for it.
Location: Enjoy the widest beach in Europe, lovely beachside promenade, and (if so inclined) the historic casino nearby.
We spent three days around New Year at the hotel. A classic from the 1950s, it's been thoroughly remodelled since then but retains many of the original features (marble bathrooms, period frescoes and other decorations). There are only three large hotels on the Figueira oceanfront, which is mostly occupied with condo buildings, so if you want ocean view there's not much to choose from, which is perhaps why Mercure doesn't seem to be trying very hard to please its guests. Our biggest complaint is about "free" wifi, which worked poorly to not at all in our room. We ended up throwing our arms up in frustration and purchasing paid wifi vouchers for a functional connection (before discovering, on our second day, that the "free" wifi worked reasonably well in our bathroom). We also found one of the receptionists spitefully unfriendly on a couple of occasions. On other fronts, the mattresses were hard and the pillows lumpy, though overall the rooms are fine (and the large, open balconies with beach/ocean view positively gorgeous). Overall we'd recommend the hotel for the unique style, history & location.
