Nice 1900 old home that's been converted into basically a b&b. Incredibly nice staff. Beautiful, authentic furniture and its location in Pacific Heights, away from the hustle, made this a really cool alternative to my normal hotel schtick. I'd do it again!!

Our first trip to the city. We were impressed by the beautiful architecture, the parks and landscaping along the streets, breathtaking views of the city and the bay, the fantastic museums and the friendliness of the people. Each morning we took our map to the front desk and asked how to get to the place(s) we wanted to see. The staff would literally draw us a picture of the bus route we needed. Seniors can go anywhere in the city for $1; for others it's $2.25.

Staff were very polite and helpful the hotel could do with a change of floor carpet as it looked very outdated and stained in some places. Our room accommodated. a family of 4 and it felt like a safe area to stay. The Motor Inn was situated 2 blocks from the Cable car line. The location of Motor Inn had a range of places to eat especially on Polk Street around the corner from Pacific Avenue. Free car parking which is huge boost to your savings.

The problem we experienced was they requested an addition $50.00 cash only deposit before they would check- in. They tried to charge for 4 days of parking when only stayed 2 Days. Also charge $23.00 on charge card. When I called to find out for what I was told incendentials. I explained I don't pay for incendentials with out knowing what they are for. They said it would take 3 days to take charges off my card. They where taken off after 3 days.

Rather old hotel. We tend to stay out and about when we travel, so for us a hotel was just to get a good nights sleep and shower. The AC didn't work properly it blew normal air instead of cold air, so we slept kind of warm at night. I did like that they had their own restaurant in the hotel. Eating breakfast in the morning is a big thing for us, and I am glad they offered that.

Nice hotel. Nice rooftop. Nice refurbished rooms. Nice expanded breakfast. Nice free local shuttle.
Be forewarned though, not the best area of SF though. Tons of homeless in the area.
Good overall value and close to everything if you don't mind skipping 5-6 blocks to get past the homeless on the streets.

I love staying at the monarch. Most of the time the staff is amazing and friendly. I would and still do recommend all my friends to stay. I just wish they would invest better. What I mean is the rooms as lovely as they are; are pretty gross. The walls need paint, bathrooms majority of them need repair. This hotel needs some TLC!! Great hotel, has potential to be 3-5 stars!!

The rooms were comfortable, no smells, and a pleasant experience. Lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc. Parking was convoluted and limited # of spaces. We got there early in the evening (6 pm) and were able to find a spot, I would be worried about the hotel having a parking spot for you if you come later in the evening/night. Convoluted parking spaces, hard to fit a bigger car. I was barely able to maneuver a honda accord.
Biggest issue with the hotel is that "breakfast" starts at 8 am. and from what it sounded like, it was just some stuff laid out on a window sill opposite the small check-in desk. If you're coming from out of town, you're likely trying to BE somewhere by 8 am, not eat breakfast at 8 am... so the breakfast is mostly a sham.
