"This was a very cute little apartment in a great area of town. We enjoyed our stay, but it did feel a bit like we were renting from a cheap landlord. There were a fair amount of small things that felt like could be fixed quickly on the property but weren't: There was a nail sticking out of a floorboard in a high traffic area, the shower head holder was broken so you had to hold it yourself, the shower wouldn't drain so you had to pause your shower every 2 minutes to let it catch up - and I think this drain issue was also causing a slight smell issue in the washroom. The cupboard labeled "first aid" had no first aid kit in it. All minor things that didn't impact our stay, but worth noting. The walls are fairly thin so if people come and go in the hallway you can hear it clearly. We were appreciative that we could check-in early, however the person at the reception gave us the wrong address despite us questioning why it was different from what google maps labeled. So we kept trying to get into the wrong building before just going where google maps labeled and correctly getting in there. It was convenient that we could enter the property with a code instead of carrying a key."

It’s an ideal base for exploring the city and discovering everything Madeira has to offer. A standout feature is the wonderful rooftop pool and bar, which provide the perfect setting to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The rooftop offers a relaxing atmosphere, refreshing swimming opportunities, and beautiful views over Funchal. It’s a fantastic bonus for a hotel located right in the city center. The hotel offers a welcoming atmosphere, comfortable accommodations, and excellent convenience for both short visits and longer stays. Overall, Hotel Madeira delivers a great balance of comfort, accessibility, and leisure facilities. Its unbeatable location and delightful rooftop pool and bar make it a fantastic place to stay in Funchal. Highly recommended!"

"We greatly enjoyed our stay at castanheiro boutique. The staff were the best, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. This was the best welcoming of our trip from the front reception staff. We enjoyed the rooftop pool and bar. The views were amazing and staff were top notch. We also enjoyed the happy hour and had an amazing dinner in the restaurant. One of our best dinners in Madeira! We greatly enjoyed our stay the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We will be recommending the hotel to others and hope to come back and enjoy in the future. Thank you. "Great location looking out over Funchal - lovely pool/ cafe area to relax at and very friendly, helpful staff. Well served by local bus into town - only walked back once due to the steep incline and busy, narrow roads. Would stay there again"

"The Reception staff were fair, You cannot check in until the allocated time, even if the room is ready. We had to ask a few times to have two tea cups placed in our room rather than just one but they sorted it on the last day. The breakfast is good. We paid for a superior room which had a lovely big balcony. There is a dressing table and stool, the hairdryer is located in the bathroom but there is no mirror in the dressing table area so you have to stand in the hallway to use the hairdryer, it's a small but annoying detail, why put a dressing table and chair but no mirror! The pool was great to use in the afternoons after a morning of sightseeing. There are around 10 sunbeds, otherwise you can just use chairs. There is a bar service with a very helpful member of staff but no service on a Sunday at all, which I did not realise. Don't expect the clean towels to all arrive at once, they eventually bring the clean towels in when they arrive at the hotel."
