Liked easy access to all parts on ground floor/ country on doorstep view from Room 8, can-do attitude of friendly, youthful staff, comfy cosy atmosphere - all superb Room 8: fab duvet pillows and throws. Disappointing mattress I thought - it seemed rather “ hollowed-out”. My only criticism!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were good and set us up for the day. The down side - bank holiday weekend was VERY HOT. On the bed was a thick, heavy winter duvet. We did find a summer duvet in the wardrobe which was great initially, but as it cooled down in the night we realised that the summer duvet was only double bed size and our bed was king size. This meant part of our bodies were cold. I asked for correct size duvet the following morning and got a blanket, doubled up, inside a king size duvet! I did not expect this in such a good quality hotel. I did mention this on the “critic”card and have heard no comment from the hotel. The room was clean, but was very tired looking. The carpet was fraying near the patio doors and had some stains on it. There was also a lack of surfaces to put things on, especially in the bathroom.

The hotel was nice, well located and good service. It wasn’t spotless due to the age of certain things e.g carpets/window handles, but the bedding and bathroom and surfaces in the room were generally very clean. Although some parts have been updated it’s an old building so you do hear sounds from other rooms.

At 10:30 in the evening they stated an open air film in the field right outside my bedroom window. There was no warning when I made the booking now when I checked in. When I called the desk they did not really seem to care that I was blasted out until midnight. Totally unacceptable.
