My favourite hotel in Chicago...maybe the world!
This was my second stay at The James and it more than exceeded my expectations. There are plenty of great hotels in Chicago, but what sets The James apart is the staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and they seem to have a genuine passion and eagerness to help guests get the most out of their stay. And I really mean everyone - desk staff, housekeeping, room service, the doorman...it really is quite special, and I can't think of another hotel that has made me feel so welcome.
My girlfriend and I were upgraded to a studio apartment-style room when we checked in, and it was almost perfect. It was big, the bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was great. The only problem was that a vent, presumably for heating and water, made noise constantly. It was pretty loud but we both got used to it and it wasn't bad enough that it warranted a complaint to the staff. But, it was noticeable, especially when trying to sleep.
My girlfriend loved the spa, and we both really enjoyed our room service breakfast. A little pricey, maybe, but worth it.
In terms of location it's fantastic too. It's a couple of blocks from a red line 'el' stop, and a couple of blocks west of the Magnificent Mile, with most of the other sights of Chicago in easy reach.
I really can't recommend The James enough. It's absolutely fantastic and quite possibly my favourite hotel in the world. You won't be sorry if you choose to stay :)
