Older, Grand Ol' Place in Good Location
Checked in later than expected but it was quick & easy. Self-parked (highly recommend for the price difference) about 1-1/2 blocks away & the process was simple. Main reasons for booking here were great weekend price (after reward points) & rooftop bar (Drumbar) - VERY bummed it was closed for a private event. Didn't feel up to crashing it so, thanks to a recommendation by the front desk clerk, able to grab a drink right across the street at The Local - in the Hilton. (I'd also suggest here as a good option for a full breakfast, if want more than coffee / juice & pastries / donuts from the juice shop in the lobby.)
Booked a "deluxe king suite" - HUGE. Very comfortable (the bed was amazing) but a bit drab. The floor plan put the bedroom near the elevator shaft. Being an older building, there were some interesting noises. Also, older building = small elevators & narrower hallways. Can sometimes feel creepy but, for us, added to the character. None of this really bothered us but it might some. Went up to the sun deck the next morning to find it's really close to the lake (great views), Hancock bldg & north Michigan / Water-Tower area. Realized how cool if could've hung out up there at the Drumbar (sigh). All-in-all, it's worth a return trip.
Final note - as an Elite+ member & this a VIP hotel, supposed to get a perk? Asked front desk & they mentioned the suite but it's what I booked, not an upgrade. Couldn't get a drink with bar closed. Still wondering what it is?
