Good for classic elegance but...

Posted 25-Mar-2017
Pros: The best thing was the bar area and the restaurant
Cons: "Restore" it as was done at Chicago Athletic. Improve staff true sprit of service.
Location: Stayed only 1 night. However frequent Coq d'Or and RL's so familiar with the area
.. not as well kept as the Drake or Palmer House for example, especially the common areas. The staff in the bar area and restaurant were good, as was the breakfast. Staff otherwise, door, check in, not so much. Limited incentive to return in the current state. I usually stay at Chicago Athletic or the Omni or (3rd choice...) Hyatt Regency. I have stayed at the Drake and Palmer House. I also was stuck in a Jam and needed a 2PM check out or could have done 2nd night at the same price. No one helpful in this regard. Only reason to recommend the hotel really is the bar and the restaurant but you don' t need to stay to do that.

GREAT LOCATION

Posted 25-Mar-2017
Pros: Location, staffing, beautiful hotel
Cons: The lobby furnishings are worn hence making the overall hotel seem subpar.
Location: Our business visits were all within walking distance, one block from the John Hancock and one block from the lake - excellent!
We were there on business and within walking distance to all of the businesses, shops, restaurants, lake access and one block off of the Magnificent Mile.

Nice hotel, cozy room.

Pros: Nice location.
Cons: Just as stated above.
Location: Great a location, quiet street very close to Michigan avenue shopping.
Enjoyed my stay there. Very courteous staff, nice room. My only advice for improvement is to offer a makeup mirror, the mirror in the bathroom is not close up accessible.

Nice hotel in excellent location.

It had the best price among the hotels in the same star rating category. Excellent location, next to Michigan Av( 100 meters walk). Staff very kind and helpful. Room was not very big, but good size for a 1 night stay.

Location: The hotel is located right on Magnificent Mile--there are so many shops and restaurants really close! And the lake, too!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights and we absolutely loved the beautiful, old hotel. The staff was incredibly nice and we had no issues whatsoever with them. The only 2 downfalls that I noticed were: the walls are incredibly thin--but that's just because the hotel is so old. Second, although the bathroom was really nice, the rain shower was basically useless. There was not a lot of water pressure and that makes for not the greatest shower. I understand it's supposed to be relaxing, but when you wanna feel super clean, relaxation doesn't matter. Even so, the doormen were so sweet and helpful, the front staff were great, and even the guests were nice too. Maybe we came at the right now (still Winter) and the clientele are different in the Summer. Either way, we had a great time! Thank you so much to everyone for making our first trip to Chicago a great one.

Good location. Kind of pricey.

Hotel was in good location. Room Cost was average but cost to park was ridiculous. $67 per day --which is crazy when your car isn't moved for over 2 days. Restaurant was also very expensive for just a plain old breakfast. It's an older hotel so rooms were kind of small. Not sure I would stay here again.
