CLose to everything

Posted 30-Jul-2016
Pros: Hotel very clean, beds comfy and clean, lots of towels. Staff very obliging, friendly. QUiet hotel
Cons: THe walls need to be looked after, a lot of Knicks in the walls. Could do with a paint job!!
This hotel is close to the McCormick Centre if you are attending convention. IT is across the street from Millenium Park and other parks and museums. THis hotel is on the Hop on, Hop off route. It is a couple of blocks from the blue line, train from O'Hara airport. THis is a very efficient and convenient mode of transportation from O'Hara. LOts to do in Chicago, very friendly city. Try the deep dish pizza at Giordanas. YUM!!!!!

It is a good location, near a lot of things.

Some reviews are bad, that the hotel is so terrible..let us put it this way, the hotel has good location, it is cheaper than the others therefore, do not expect a high class hotel. It is an old hotel so expect that it has the same condition as the other hotel which is only 20 yrs old. But the hotel is clean, staff are friendly, wifi is unlimited to users of each room (but I read otherwise), and hotel has very nice architecture to it. The bed and the beddings is not the best, in fact it is not that comfortable, BUT it is clean and it matters. They give you lots of toiletries and accessories. And Oh about the ghost....I was looking for one, didn't feel any nor saw one...hehehe.

Classic hotel that I'd stay at again

Posted 29-Jul-2016
Pros: The Internet speed was AMAZING - probably the best / fastest I've experienced in a hotel this size. Bed was nice and firm.
Cons: I wish the room had some way to set the temperature - at the time that I stayed, it was summer, so you could only have cool air, or turn it off
Location: It's in the south loop area, a handful of restaurants in the area
I wasn't sure what I would find, being that this hotel had the best rates by far for a 3 night stay. The hotel is quite old, and I'm sure there's a lot of history... and there are many coats of paint from many years of use (my room must of been freshly painted) Thankfully, they gave me a room on the top floor of the North tower - so it was mostly quiet except for other loud patrons and the usual slamming of doors.

Conveniently located, close to park

Older facility, but with large rooms. Don't stay in back of hotel (odd room numbers) or you will be listening to the trains all night

The pictures misled us; the hotel didn't look as good as the pictures. Air condition was terrible; loud and it was cooling. The staff were very prompt and friendly though. Very! Also the hotel didn't provide any complementary stuff like water. The vending machines weren't working.

Great price and location!

Posted 28-Jul-2016
Pros: Location, price, and the old charm (especially the lobby).
Cons: The hotel needs updates and some of the more basic amenities such as an in-room mini fridge.
Location: It is right by the South Loop, Grant Park, Museum island, the L, and Lake Michigan.
The hotel is in a fabulous location and one of the cheapest downtown. It used to be very luxurious and you can still see some of that charm. It is in need of attention and updates. Check-in and check-out was fast. Housekeeping left us a thank-you note for the tip. The rooms were huge, which was great for our family, and I loved the high ceilings. There were two minor issues, which could happen in any hotel, and both were addressed immediately by the staff.

Will never come back.

Spent 2 days in Chicago. Price is affordable but you get what you pay for. Everything is old and have a weird dungeon smell. Nothing works. No hot water and bath tub was clogged. Call maintenance 2x before someone showed up 1 and 30 minutes later. Bed is so uncomfortable. Stains on pillow. Bellman, Jose and his brother were exceptional. They kind of made up for everything.

Landmark hotel that needs updating

Posted 27-Jul-2016
Pros: About the only thing is that it is in the center of almost everything you want to see in The Loop. Close to public transit and many attractions
Cons: Update the place
I'm sure the Congress was the place to stay about 20 years ago. The place needs either updating or to be torn down. The place leaked after a rain. We were on the 6th floor of the South Tower and struggled to get hot water. Cleaning staff wasn't all too keen on cleaning the rooms. Wanted you to sign a slip that you didn't need service and then just handed you clean towels and that's it. In the hallways and overall feeling while walking around was that I was about get mugged or stabbed. Not a friendly feeling.

Cold Play concert

Super nice hotel in right across fountaine . Minutes to miracle mile , millennium park, solider filed and all downtown activities. Room service (housekeeping ) was a bit noise in the morning, they were knocking in the doors (other then our, we had s sigh ) loud . And it's a huge hotel. Feels like this hotel have a lots of history, ask the stuff if you looking for the gouhst stories , they will tell you , lol.
