"Excellent place to stay"
As other reviews mention some of the hotel's facilities might look kind of old, but we found it very comfortable and clean. the hotel has a great location, with a nice view to the river. It has big comfortable rooms. Excellent buffet breakfast. Staff is extremely nice and helpful.

"Space and Seclusion"
Chiang Rai is a very small town that is just starting to see tourism in the form of overnight visitors. It seems that most people take a very long bus ride from nearby Chiang Mai (3 hours by bus) to quickly see the White Temple and The Golden Triangle and then drive back (3 hours) to their hotel in Chiang Mai. We wanted to extend our time in the small city and break up the drive. It was also in the middle of our 2 week trip so we thought we might want some easier days to regroup and rest without much scheduled. The Imperial River House is a great place to do this. It is one of the finer hotels in the city. The property is very large and right on the river. Spacious is the first word that comes to mind. There is a huge pool and lots of outdoor areas. While our room was gigantic it was a bit sparse. Everything was nice and clean but it certainly wasn't ostentatious or glamorous. It was what we needed and nothing more. A 4 Star hotel for a 2 Star price. Our favorite part about this hotel was the proximity to one of our favorite restaurants of the whole trip- Chivit Thamma Da. It's an adorable "coffee" house that no doubt has delicious coffee but also extraordinary food, real wine (hard to find in Thailand), delicious desert, a romantic location (on the river), and an adorable atmosphere. It's owed by a Thai local and her Dutch(?) husband. You can walk here from the hotel. It is through a random residential neighborhood, but we always felt safe in Thailand so we didn't mind it.

"My Stay at De Hug Hotel"
I could not find sufficient information on the web so I booked De Hub for 2 nights because the location was described as being in the he centre of the business district, my plan was to move to another hotel for the rest of my stay in Chiang Rai if De Hug did not work out. As it turned out, the location of the hotel was anything but being in the centre of business district. It was located more than 2km away from town centre and I had either walk for about 30 min one way or take a Tuk Tuk which cost 80bht . Breakfast was basic, with either noodle and or porridge, with the basic toast and jam. The room was big and clean, but the bathroom is quite basic, with no dedicated shower area. One disappointment I had was the tour that was arranged for me, I booked a group tour for 1000bht that was supposed to take us to Mae Sai and Golden Triangle in a van. However, instead of a van, the tour company showed up in a Toyota sedan to ferry 4 of us for quite long distance drives, I was given the option of getting a refund, but it had already dedicated that day for the tour and decided to go with the car instead....but was quite a squeeze I ended up switching to Miang Inn hotel, which was in hitherto centre of town...which where the bus station and night market is located,

Bikes in the hotel to use are free. The staff are young but really nice! They speak more English than most hotels in the area.

"NIce getaway."
We liked the hotel very much. Just stay out of the restaurant and reception. We had dinner and it was good, so we tried breakfast. Bad idea. It was awful. Very expensive and inedible. We tried to figure out how many times they reused the coffee grounds to make the coffee. Nasty stuff. I live in Thailand and am accustomed to the "Asian style" breakfast. I like jok in the morning and the different noodle dishes. I'm not sure how they could make Thai food taste that bad. The worst thing was the price. It cost almost a day's pay for a Thai to eat there per person. My Thai MIL almost had a heart attack over the price and then with the food being so horrible she was upset about it the entire day. The other problem we had was that reception refused to call a taxi for us. We wanted to hire a taxi to take us, 4 adults, to the white temple. They told us the only option was their shuttle to the night market for a sort or reasonable fee, or hire their van to the white temple for a couple hours for an insane price. We could have rented a car for two weeks for the price we were quoted. We ended up renting a car for out stay so we could avoid their crazy rates. The next day we asked for directions to the long neck village. Reception drew us a totally bogus map in the complete opposite direction from where we needed to go. Half a day wasted. No language barrier. I was the only non-Thai in the group.

"Riverside setting"
On first impression we were a little unsure but need not have worried. Lovely hotel, great room with spa bath & river view balcony. Modern & clean. Did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the evening meal. Unfortunately breakfast let the hotel down. Very limited choice, still eating breakfast outside literally on the side of the river a real bonus. If u do not want to eat at the hotel it is quite a walk from anywhere else, we walked to the food night market along by the river. Well worth it, fabulous meal & great atmosphere. We were the only English people but that didn't bother us. Made very welcome. Hotel is handy for driving to the attractions of the golden triangle. Would definitely stay here again but upgrading is probably worth it.

"Unique experience"
Stayed for 3 days, 2 nights… tucked away in the mountains and rivers, different from any resorts that I have been to. With only 15 rooms, the service is purely personal and exceptional. The choices of drinks and meals are surprising in a remote location like this. The combination of activities starting from the moment of picking up from Chiang Rai airport, to boat rides, elephant rides, elephant training grounds, to sight seeing, are all like no others. The stay in a luxurious tent comparing to the stay in a normal bungalow is something of a change in a vacation, it gives me the feel of going on to a safari. Recommended… if USD3,000 per night stay is no concern!

"5 stars all around but the most miserable stay hav"
Not too many five star ratings with a miserable stay. But it was two days of 7°C and our room was on the end 3408 I think it was it was so cold in there we could see our breath. But I still give the hotel a five stars they try their best.

"Worth every penny and than some..."
What an amazing, magical place. It is 5 star on all counts, but most importantly the hotel staff is exceptional - warm, friendly, and very engaging. There is not a single detail that is overlooked and they treat you as if you are the only guest. And for an all inclusive resort the food is 5 star as well. There is not a bad room - though I liked that ours didn't overlook the pool - but the pool is beautiful and would not spoil your view. VIP arrival and Dining by Design are well worth the extra cost. I booked this for my husbands 45th birthday and it was one of our best family vacation memories yet. All of the excursions we did were wonderful but we fell in love with the elephants and especially loved the mahout experience. No matter what you choose you get to see elephants every day and be around them - it is a wonderful, amazing experience. If you can afford it, book it, you will not be sorry.
