We enjoyed our stay at 40 Cańones. The staff was attentive and kind. The best thing was their food options. EVERYTHING we ordered at their restaurant was delicious. The ceviche was fresh. Americano perfect. We will return and bring the rest of the fam. Gracias por todo!

For the high price of this hotel we expected more. the hotel is lacking in customer service, room comfort, as well as cleanliness of the washrooms. The restaurant and beach club were great and the staff working them were very helpful. Food and drink at the restaurant was 10/10, the coffee was also excellent. But the beach club and restaurant are separate from the hotel. We thought the bed in our room was hard and made for a bad sleep. Also only a bed sheet is provided, no duvet, just a sheet, which was strange. The towels for the beach are simple travel towels that smelled. The bathroom had a sewer smell the entire time. Also be mindful of the time of year you visit Mahahual if it’s high cruise ship season be aware that the beach and town will be flooded with cruise ship tourists during the day. The hotel is central on the strip and there are many great restaurants nearby. Long story short, I would choose another hotel for my next stay in Mahahual.

looks like the hotel was recently renovated, the rooms despite being nicely designed are hit and miss, more than half are inside the building with zero light (no windows, no balcony) and a a result are musty. fully agree with the shoebox comment of another reviewer. Best rooms are the family rooms with balcony and fridge, or the more expensive rooms at front and back of the hotel. know what you're booking, a suite plus is a lot worse than a suite queen for example. Staff tries to be helpful, they have poor experience cleaning rooms properly and are controlled by a manager who needs training in customer service and general business conduct. Front desk always try to fill the worst rooms first. it's clear they simply don't care. restaurant was good, beach club was ok, beach in front is not the best on the strip

Great location on the beach, nice area for walking. Cute tourist shops nearby, with some really good restaurants! The room we had was tiny, not in great shape. You would have to book a family room to get a more normal sized room. Not a big deal for a night, but not very comfortable

Stay away from this hotel...and his manager
Spent 2 nights in that hotel. No wifi in the room. Front desk tried to help us but nothing helped. Manager is a crook. Never showed up, never talked to us....didn't even apologize. He asked the front desk to tell us everything and his contrary. They asked us if we wanted to move to a partner hotel but wanted us to pay again and ask hotels.com to refund us when our stay was non refundable. This manager was unable to handle this situation and should find another job. Dated furniture, dirty walls, old torn bath towels, window to the balcony not closing ...this hotel has it all..Stay away from it. You have a lot of others options in that beautiful town.

Great quiet spot, probably the best in town. You have all the services; food, drinks and beach. Affordable prices for snorkeling and massage services. The ocean view rooms are for a bigger group. If you come as a couple you’ll get the side view. I didn’t mind but just a heads up

Laid back vacation
They speak very little English but still able to help and accommodate in an acceptable way. Attractively designed, very small rooms but don’t spend much time in the room. The hotel had good food and a beautiful view of the ocean.

The overall property is nice, for the area and gives you direct beach access. At night, the area will stay noisy until 10pm which can make it difficult if you're trying to get a baby to sleep. The comfort of the beds could be far better, ours was hard and made for rough sleep. No conforter or quilt on the beds, only a top sheet. No cribs for a baby. Rooms are smaller, bathroom is smaller. Good place for couples to stay. Food at restaurant is really good and drinks are also really good, paying Anerican prices though!

The Hotel is incredible, very beautiful, the staff very attentive and helpful, it has access to walk, access to the beach, everything is very clean. I loved the Hotel in general, and I definitely recommend it.

It’s one of the nicest hotels in the area. The restaurant offers great food and service. And the beach is a paradise. We had the overlooking room to the beach and it was priceless to see the sun coming out every morning.

Stau was OK . Rooms need a fresh up . We had little animals on the wooden parts , thus a fumigation would be required . Water pressure very low in the shower. Location very good and very nice staff

Excellent hotel in Mahalal on the beach!
Beautiful hotel. Located on the main walkway by the beach. Clean and very comfortable room for 4 people, good restaurant on site. The staff was very nice and friendly. The building did not have an elevator, so we carried our bags to the 3rd floor - just an FYI not a negative for us. The staff has some that are bi-lingual, some that only speak Spanish. I'm not a beach person but the hotel has a very nice and clean section of beach with chairs, etc Had no problems communicating with my limited "spanglish". Would definitely stay there again!

We (2 couples) enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms were nice, beds comfortable, restaurant and bar (food, drinks & service) were great, its a central location for walking to shopping & restaurants. The only complaint was with the associated beach club - the guy wouldn't provide any service for us because we didn't speak Spanish. He waited on all others around us - food, drinks - but would only motion to us to go across the street to order our drinks ourselves.

Great hotel, location and service
This hotel is a real treat in this gem of a beachside community. From check-in to check-out, the staff was attentive and friendly. The beds are very comfortable. Though the rooms are cozy and relatively small, the high ceilings eliminate the sense of being closed in. We upgraded to a room with a view, which I recommend.
The water is calm and warm.
Take a swim or just swing for a while.

Lovely little spot.
Wonderful room (#30) perfect for family. Good service and friendly staff. Didn't appreciate being accused of breaking a paddle board paddle ($50) which in the end wasn't us.

Hotel is clean and really pretty. The staff is very attentive and helpful. They keep the hotel common areas clean. The food is good and the drinks. The beach is keep clean as well they clean the sea weed. The location is fantastic and the most important the beach is awesome.

The Yucatán's little hidden Gem
This being our first visit to Mahahaul, and not knowing much about the little fishing village (except for You Tube videos) it was love at first sight. For being a remote out of the way village it's charm and warm hospitality is that of a 5 star resort. we had good sized clean rooms, with daily housekeeping, great food, and bar. Access to boats to take you snorkeling or fishing at the reef. A dive shop a minutes walk from hotel. The village has a cement walkway from one end of the hotel/restaurant district to the other. You'll pass by gift shops, bars and restaurants ,which of course everyone is welcome, locals with gift stands selling local handmade crafts So if your looking for some piece and quiet, then you will certainly enjoy the quaint little town of Mahahaul Mexico located in the Costa Maya region of Quintana Roo. The "Kalma 40 Canones" hotel is the place to stay. Did I mention it's private parking lot across the street !!! The only downside of the hotel is no refrigerators in the rooms, but a small disposable cooler and some ice from the bar will keep liquid refreshments cold : ). I give the Kalma 40 Canones 5 STARS with all things considered. So consider Mahahaul for your next vacation destination. We loved it so much that we purchased property there !!!
