Fantastic customer service made our stay.

Pros: The staff
Cons: We perhaps prefer a hotel with more modern decor, however everything else more than made up for this.
Location: The Grosvenor is right in the centre of Chester, everything is on the doorstep of the hotel.
We booked into a deluxe room at the Grosvenor recently and due to a misinterpretation of the facilities available in the room we were left a little disappointed. The staff (especially Danielle) went above and beyond when ensuring they did everything possible to make us happy, and turned a potentially disappointing stay into a fantastic one. The Grosvenor is a great hotel, and its location and facilities are deserving if its 5 star status, however its the staff that it a very special hotel.

A beautiful hotel, excellent service, professional/friendly staff. We were complimentary upgraded to a suite, which was beautiful. My only negative would be that the bed had an extremely soft mattress, which we found uncomfortable as our mattress at home is a firm orthopedic mattress. Would I recommend this hotel.... Most definitely 😁

Pros: More or less everything - tastefully understated decor, helpful and attentive staff and exceptional position in the heart of a historic city
Cons: Nothing, frankly
Location: Chester is certainly among the most fascinating historic cities in the UK and the hotel has an unequalled position close to the cathedral and shops.
From the start I was really impressed by the excellent service, the pleasant ambiance and the exceptional facilities of my accommodation. I have never experienced a better hotel in my extensive travels, and although I was there for four nights I could willingly have prolonged the stay.

Bad manners and discourtesy of some of the staff

Pros: The courtesy of the head doorman [who parked my car] and the other front of house staff, reception, Ruth Duty Manager and room service waiters.
Cons: The manners of the staff in the Arkle Bar. Bathroom & Executive Bedroom needs upgrading. Towels extremely rough.
Booked a two night stay. Whilst waiting for my room [the Brasserie full] I went to the Arkle bar for a coffee. The bad manners and discourtesy began from here: Staff unable to understand my requests, being told I 'could not sit at a table' but had to go to the bar to sit on one of their very high stools. Not content with this discourtesy the head of the Arkle bar told me I should have booked a table! I stood my ground and said that I was waiting for my room and that I had no intention of climbing up onto one of their high bar stools. He grudgingly gave me a table and said that it was Reserved at 4.00 - it was only ten to three at the time! Other points which should not arise in a 5 Star hotel [and I have had experience of many during my business travels]Arkle Bar continued discourtesy during my visit when attempting to book after noon tea. Told they were fully booked at all times. When I said that I would therefore book afternoon tea in the RESIDENTS DRAWING ROOM I was told that this 'was not possible' as 'they were understaffed' and would be unable to serve tea. 5* service ? I have encountered better manners in Premier Inns. Brasserie: No biscuits other than chocolate to have with my coffee. Being diabetic and unable to eat chocolate I asked for some plain biscuits. NO OTHER BISCUITS came the discourteous reply [I note that another diabetic has complained of similar treatment. A 5* hotel should have a supply of biscuits for their guests]

Lovely hotel in the heart of Chester

I enjoyed a comfortable stay at the Chester Grosvenor, it is a lovely hotel in the heart of the Chester. My only slight negatives were that additional charges were placed on just about everything such as accessing the spa area (not treatments) or anything warm with your breakfast. Whilst my room was lovely (328) the bathroom could do with refreshing a little bit, the shower pole and bath were both marked from use. Not a major issue, but not particularly in keeping with the 5* offer. All things considered I'd use the Grosvenor again.

This hotel is THE BEST! It's convenient for the shops and restaurants, the staff are so professional. I love staying at this hotel.

Nice hotel, curtains wouldn't close

Cons: Simpler curtains that close!
Location: Right in the main shopping street, all the attractions, bus station and train station are near by
The hotel location is right in the heart of Chester which is great, and the hotel itself is lovely. We only had one issue - the curtains in the room wouldn't close! Unfortunately we didn't find this out until 9pm and had to call hotel maintenance. After 20mins he said the curtain rail would have to come off completely as the string was completely tangled up in the mechanism. The curtain maintenance is done by an outside company who wouldn't come in at that time off night, so we were left not being able to close the curtains and woken at 6am by the sun coming though the window! We were offered complementary thermal spa, and an upgrade to a suite if we decided to stay there again. This means we would have to spend another couple of hundred quid to see any benefit! Not very impressed.
