Pros: convenient for our needs and good price.
Cons: Definitely the exterior.
Location: We were just there to visit family. Location of hotel is convenient but not attractive.
This hotel exterior is in serious need of a face lift. The front of the hotel is extremely shabby and dated, not a good first impression. All photos show the back which is not so bad. It has obviously been renovated inside as the interior is much more modern and clean. The room was ok for a couple of nights, basic, clean and comfortable. The gym is well equipped and well kept. The pool area was a bit shabby with flaking paint and grubby tiles but the pool itself was lovely and warm and a decent size for a good swim. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on food. We just stopped there for a couple of nights whilst visiting family in the area. For us the location was good being close to the main route but it's by no means picturesque! It was perfectly adequate and convenient for our purposes but not somewhere we would recommend for a weekend break.

Easy access to Chester

Posted 06-May-2017
Pros: Affordable and essentially convenient.
Cons: The facilities are old and need upgraded. The floor is uneven from block to block.
Location: Chester racecourse, city parks, Roman ruins. Great restaurants and pubs in the city centre. And, of course, the Chester Zoo.
The Holiday Inn South in Chester is by no means in the center of town, but is easily accessible via taxi and the daily drives to and from were pleasant. The hotel itself is situated near a business development on the edge of town, but still had a rambling, older feel that belies its age. But while the floors may be uneven or the layout confusing, the staff was simply marvelous and easily overcame any flaws. Their courtesy and attention to detail were excellent, and they were perhaps the friendliest group I have encountered in a long time. No beer came without a chat, no meal was served without care.

Perfect location

Posted 08-Apr-2017
We stayed here after a day at Chester zoo which was a nice 10 minute drive, there are lots of places to eat nearby and Cheshire oaks is a small drive. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and I had the best night sleep in a while. Already recommended to a friend and will definitely recommend further!

Excellent two night stay

Posted 02-Apr-2017
Really comfortable bed and pillows; brilliant good night's sleep. The reception staff were very helpful as if nothing was too much trouble. We didn't dine in or have breakfast as we found these were a little pricey. We did find that the radiator in the bedroom was far too hot for comfort but when I mentioned this to the reception staff as we were leaving, I was advised that I should have mentioned this at the time when they could have reduced the temperature or even turned it off.

Floors and walls too thin

Posted 05-Mar-2017
Pros: Parking; central location.
Cons: Sound proofing
Location: within five minutes from Chester. The taxi will cost between £7.50 and £9.00 per journey
Unfortunately the recent renovations did not stretch noise reduction. The floor between 1 and 2 suffers from both squeaky floorboards and absolutely no sound proofing which means you will share your conversation with those in the room above. Unfortunately it also means that you too will hear every sound made and argument had in the room above too, (No sleep).

One night at HI Chester.

Posted 20-Feb-2017 on Hotels
Hotel is on the outskirts of Chester, about a 5 minute drive away. Stayed in a double room which was clean and had recently been refurbished. Room was extremely hot, you have no control over the temperature in the room. A very quick check in but I have no idea what the receptionist said, she rattled off her welcome speech in parrot fashion at speed. Bar was busy and understaffed. Wifi was adequate. Didn't use any other facilities.

Nice hotel, close to Chester town centre.

Posted 19-Dec-2016
Pros: Everything
Cons: Possibly a information pack in the room with local attractions etc
Location: Chester town and zoo
Stayed for one night whilst visiting Chester for the Christmas market. Staff friendly, efficient and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was wonderful with choices to suit any palate. Rooms were excellently furnished, with extremely comfortable beds, crisp clean linen. Lovely thick fluffy towels and superbly modern bathroom. Plenty of parking too. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely book again.
