Very good choice

Posted 03-Jul-2018 on Hotels
This old Inn has great character but would not be suitable for all due to low ceilings, narrow stairs & uneven floors. However, if you can cope with this, it adds to the charm of the place. Very friendly staff. Great cooked breakfast but a little lacking in overall choice of alternatives. We had dinner in the restaurant twice & on both occasions, this was of a high standard. Stow on the Wold is beautiful. COYI

Great location overlooking the square, except that the buses pull up outside very early every morning and sit with engines running for an eternity, not the best thing for sleep with single sheet glass old sash windows that rattle too. Also the noise from the bar and entrance below did not make for a quiet evening. Room was comfy but in serious need of a repaint and bathroom tiles missing alot of grout. Shower was pathetic, but only because drophead hadn't been cleaned since maybe put in. On the plus, the breakfast was good and the hotel nicely warm and welcoming. For the amount the room cost I would have expected, and have had, much better.

Comfortable hotel in historic setting

Posted 02-Jan-2018 on Hotels
This hotel is perfectly situated in the central area of Stow. I stayed in the Doe room for two nights and enjoyed excellent facilities. Very old building, lots of character but the room was fully modernised in boutique style with excellent private bathroom and lovely comfortable bed Full English breakfast was cooked to my individual requests in a lovely setting. I found the staff at reception and in the restaurant very helpful and pleasant. Parking in Stow generally difficult to find due to the amount of visitors; however, the White Hart has its own parking spaces for guests behind the hotel so this was very welcome. Would certainly book here again and recommend it to any future guests looking for a hotel with historic character, modern room facilities and centrally placed in the main square of Stow.

Dog friendly pub

Posted 30-Aug-2017 on Hotels
Extremely central pub in Stow, brilliantly positioned for all shops and restaurants. They upgraded us to a room that overlooked the square which was very nice but quite noisy with beer deliveries etc in the morning, due to the single glazed windows. The room was clean overall but smelled a bit doggy by the front door. The staff in general were friendly, one or two very much so, but one lady was fairly rude to us on both mornings at breakfast. We were made to feel most uncomfortable. There wasn’t a great deal of choice for breakfast (only one option if you don’t like fish) and quality was variable; on one morning it was delicious (clearly scrambled eggs made with butter - yum!) but on the next day was poor. Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend the pub, as long as expectations are not too high.
