The most hip and stylish, not to mention comfortable hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in some great places. There was a "sister hotel" in town that also looked very appealing but 131 has the better location.
I'd read a few reviews of the hotel prior to its renovation. I was a bit sceptical but booked anyway as its location was ideal. The renovation has only just been completed and I was totally impressed. Stylistically and functionally brilliant. Someone has a very good eye for detail. Excellent job. It's well worth a visit even if you're not staying there.
Had a great 4 night stay here. The staff were very friendly, even the cleaning staff, always saying hello and were very helpful. The spa facilities were brilliant.
A few little niggles were:
1. Decor in our room was quite old fashioned as well as the bathroom, so if modern is what you're looking for maybe this isn't the place for you.
2. We went in the pool each of the 4 days and on all but one a woman was giving swimming lessons to various people. This was something that she was obviously hired to do, not just a member giving free lessons and her voice was horrible and shrieky. Not very relaxing if I'm honest.
3. I asked for veggie sausages at breakfast and they brought out 2 charcoaled sausages which had literal vegetables in (broccoli carrots etc) which I hate. In this day and age I would have expected proper Quorn sausages.
Overall we had a great stay here, got epically fat at breakfast, got steamed to death in the steam room because we didn't want to get out and had some nice drinks at their bar. I would recommend!
Very clean, staff polite, room was a bit hot, but had aircon and an openable window. We were able to book this for 3 kids and 1 adult... a selection most hotels don't allow for a double and sofa bed. Sausages were not very nice.
Comfy bed, decent-sized room, but it stank of the previous occupant having smoked in it, and the windows were wide open when we arrived at 1am so it was also freezing! Without the smoke issue, I'd recommend it.
