What to See in Stuttgart

Stuttgart is the capital of the Baden-Württemberg region in Germany’s southwest. It holds claim to being the birthplace of the automobile, for it was here that Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz created the modern motor car, and today it is home to Mercedes Benz and Porsche. No visit to Stuttgart would be complete without visiting the spectacular Mercedes and Porsche Museums.

Stuttgart’s History and Culture

Stuttgart also boasts a fascinating range of historic and cultural attractions. The Medieval Old Castle, now home to a fine historical museum, stands around the corner from the New Palace, a Baroque residence offering guided tours of its grand halls and apartments. And clustered around these buildings are a number of handsome historic squares, fringed by other museums and places of interest.

Pleasant Parks

Stuttgart’s famous Green U of parks embraces the city centre. The green corridor of the Schlossgarten brings you to such attractions as the Staatsgalerie, the Carl Zeiss Planetarium, and the State Theatre and Opera House. Rosenstein Garden to the north is home to the Wilhelma Zoo and Botanical Gardens, one of the finest in all Europe, as well as an excellent Natural History Museum. From Rosenstein, head west to Killesberg Park and climb the observation tower for unparalleled views of the city, or head northeast to the spa and leisure centres that take advantage of Stuttgart’s natural thermal springs.
