About Mykonos

Greece is famous for its sun-drenched, history-laden islands. But when it comes to holiday destinations that tick every box, Mykonos is hard to beat. Located in the Aegean Sea, Mykonos is part of the Cyclades and is famed for its party atmosphere, LGBT scene, and remarkable restaurants. There’s also a quiet side to the island, particularly outside of the summer months. Book off-peak and you'll find plenty of cultural attractions and museums to explore, as well as the historic nearby island of Delos.

Fly to Mykonos Airport (JMK)

There is one airport on Mykonos, known officially as Mykonos Island National Airport (JMK). It is located on the outskirts of Mykonos Town – also known as Hora – around two miles from the centre. The majority of flights that come into Mykonos Airport are seasonal and only operate during the summer months. However, the airport operates flights to and from a handful of Greek destinations year-round. This makes it possible to access the island in off-peak months, by booking a connecting flight within Greece.

Book Your Flight to Mykonos

The airport on Mykonos is fairly small, and mainly operates flights to and from destinations in Greece and Western Europe. Many of the flights are also seasonal, which can make it more difficult to travel to the island outside of the summer months. The good news is that connecting flights can be easily booked using Expedia’s booking tool – you may even find that you save money by travelling off-peak. If you're seeking a luxury travel experience, there are business class flights available from airlines such as SAS and British Airways. Otherwise you’ll find plenty of economy options, and even some budget flights with low-cost carriers such as Vueling and easyJet.

Getting Around on Mykonos

If you want to travel around and explore the island, you might consider hiring a car when you arrive at Mykonos Airport. However, this isn’t necessary if you are planning on staying in one area for the entirety of your stay. Most travellers arriving at the airport take a taxi or hotel shuttle to their destination. During peak season, a public bus service also runs from the airport into Mykonos Town. This is your cheapest option, but it is generally less convenient as the airport buses are not very regular.

Once you are in Mykonos Town, you’ll find plenty of buses to take you to other areas of the island. Water taxis can also take you to beaches on the southern coast, while the inter-island ferry services are perfect for a day trip to the neighbouring islands.

Explore Attractions on Mykonos

For many tourists, the crowning feature of the island is Mykonos Town, or Hora. Its whitewashed walls, overflowing window boxes, and labyrinthine back streets make it a captivating and romantic spot for travellers of all sorts. The town is also home to Windmills of Mykonos and the Archaeological Museum. Popular sightseeing spots elsewhere on the island include the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani and the beautiful beaches at Ornos, Kalafatis and Elia.
