Moi International Airport serves Mombasa, the second largest city in Kenya, with a selection of regional and intercontinental flights. The airport has been newly renovated and is by far the most popular and easiest option for international travellers arriving in Mombasa.
You can take taxis from the centre of the city to the beaches, airport and most other main tourist areas. If you’re looking to travel a little cheaper, then local bus taxis are minibuses that only set off when full. They can get crowded but they are very everywhere and licensed by the government, so generally safe. You can also find three-wheel tuk-tuks buzzing around for private hire.
The Old Town located around Fort Jesus is a nice place to explore, with plenty of restaurants, and the city’s Hindu temples attest to its cultural diversion. You may need a guide to go inside.
Explore more of the city’s natural surroundings on a dhow safari around Funzi Island or head to the Shimba Hills National Park to the south of the city.
