Quiet location with a great host!

We had a great week in San Pedro. We chose San Pedro so we’d be located mid-way between where other family members lived, it was a base to return to after visits. It worked well in every way. The host lives upstairs & was SO very helpful & accommodating throughout our visit: we couldn’t have asked for anyone better. The photos were true to the place: the view is all the way down to the port, the bedrooms are a good size, the built in closets have sufficient space & hangars, the mattresses on all beds are excellent, the lounge furniture is comfortable to sit or laze on and there is space to sit out on the balcony. The hot water supply is constant and hot, the air con works (although we needed it for the heat as Spring was bright but COLD) and there are fans in each bedroom closet should they be required. Extra bedlinen & towels are available and, it is close to Gaffey Street with its shops, bars and restaurants, the accommodation is located on a very quiet street. A parking permit was provided which we found useful. The location is convenient for visiting the Queen Mary, the Getty museums & other LA attractions with nice beaches 5 minutes by car to the north & LAX under 20 miles away (half an hour’s transfer, if traffic is flowing). As visiting Brits, there were some items which we expected but weren’t available (a kettle to make a hot cup of tea rather than a coffee maker, a toaster & hairdryer) but the host asked for our feedback before we left and I’m sure he will add these. The lack of them didn’t affect our stay. We enjoyed the quiet, the good nights’ sleep and our host’s hospitality. He was an extremely gracious and kind to us, genuinely interested in our reasons to visit. I would return there to use it as a base for future visits to family in California.

Bad experience with safety concerns.

We were supposed to check in at 4 pm, but was not able to make it until 5:30 pm. Never got instructions on how to check-in (get key, notify host, etc). Tried to message the host through the app multiple times and called 3 times. In the meantime we found the door was unlocked and someone’s things were still in a room, the kitchen was a mess, bathrooms did not have towels, had to ask for washcloths after getting towels, and none of the other rooms had linens. Host finally answered on 3rd phone call and came down to address our concerns. I had to ask for a key, which took a while to get and did not even lock the main door, only the knob on the security door. We have stayed in quite a few Vacation Rentals and have never had an experience as bad as this one.
