Old Without The Charm

Posted 23-May-2017
Old hotel that shows its age. Terribly uneven floors, walls, ceilings; staff moderately accommodating, our room had a shower valve that was on backwards that the staff was aware of (for who knows how long) but hadn't fixed it yet. They didn't bother telling us that though. Figuring that out on my own wasted about ten minutes of my life that I'll never get back and who knows how many gallons of water. The deadbolt on the door was broken so it locked from the outside only and there was no way of unlocking it from the inside--probably not the safest of arrangements. Our room was next to the stairs so we got to hear everybody tromping up and down the stairs at all hours of the day and night. Wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't stay there again.

Nice hotel walking distance to everything

Posted 18-May-2017
We had seen from other reviews noise had been a issue, not so for us. Loved having a safe place to leave our luggage since we were taking a 7:30pm ferry back to the main land. My husband went scuba diving that day so needed to get back into luggage to change clothes. I stopped back in to the hotel during the day to download some additional information from the free WiFi.

Walking distance from the port

Posted 17-May-2017
We arrived at Catalina and walked to our hotel from the port. It was less than a 5 minute walk. It's close to all shops and restaurants.

Old hotel that needs major construction

Posted 24-Apr-2017
Pros: The proximity to town was good and the staff was mostly nice.
Cons: Change out the shower curtains, buy new lamp shades, have the building's sinking foundation shored up,get double paned windows, install new doors.
Location: Hotel is close to shopping area. Definitely eat at Ben's Bakery for breakfast/lunch.
Booked this hotel for my husband's 40th birthday weekend because of the charming pictures on Expedia. I realize this being the second oldest hotel in California, that it's not going to be as nice as a newer hotel. When we arrived a couple hours early, the front desk staff was kind enough to point us to a room where any guests can leave their bags to shop town until your room is ready. While having lunch we got a call that our room was cleaned and ready for us, which was great! Upon walking up the stairs to our room, we noticed the 2nd flood was sloped in different directions. The doors are thin and still used regular keys to get in, not modern electronic keycards, not really a deal breaker but the amount of noise through the thin door was awful! The room was "clean" but the window blinds had broken slats, the lamp shades were coming apart, the ceiling fan was missing the light bulbs, the bathroom window wouldn't open, the floors were very uneven and sloped (again in different directions), the shower curtain was the clear curtain with lifelike image of fish from the 1990's (broken and had rust stains all over). All of these other issues were cosmetic, the two deal breakers for us were the guests next to our room smoking cigarettes (and the front desk not believing us when we complained there was smoking in the hallway) and the amount of noise you can hear from your room at all hours of the night. I felt like I was back in college listening to frat kids party all night.

Posted 19-Apr-2017
Pros: location is perfect
Cons: Able to check in earlier
Location: everythign is close by
it is an older building brought up to date. Nicely done, bathroom was small, but thats understandable. Super clean, beds are super comfy. Street noise was a bit much but it dies down at midnight

Great Location

Perfect central location. It was a couple minute walk to everywhere we needed to go, including the boat ride to and from Long Beach.

lovely quaint hotel; conveniently located

Posted 18-Apr-2017
Pros: It's unpretentious nature. Everyone working there was super friendly and helpful.
Cons: Upgrade the blinds; they are aesthetically pleasing, but it gets SUPER bright in the room once the sun comes up!
Location: Nothing in Catalina is far, but this place was perfectly located right in the center of everything!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for our first time in Catalina. The rooms were very homey, like a studio apartment. There is an A/C unit and ceiling fan. The weather (when i went in April) was cool all night, so we could sleep with the windows open. There is a small table and chairs, a couch and a coffee table, a mini fridge and a microwave. It's not super fancy like most big hotels, but it's nice, clean and very homey.
