Old hotel that needs major construction
Booked this hotel for my husband's 40th birthday weekend because of the charming pictures on Expedia. I realize this being the second oldest hotel in California, that it's not going to be as nice as a newer hotel. When we arrived a couple hours early, the front desk staff was kind enough to point us to a room where any guests can leave their bags to shop town until your room is ready. While having lunch we got a call that our room was cleaned and ready for us, which was great! Upon walking up the stairs to our room, we noticed the 2nd flood was sloped in different directions. The doors are thin and still used regular keys to get in, not modern electronic keycards, not really a deal breaker but the amount of noise through the thin door was awful! The room was "clean" but the window blinds had broken slats, the lamp shades were coming apart, the ceiling fan was missing the light bulbs, the bathroom window wouldn't open, the floors were very uneven and sloped (again in different directions), the shower curtain was the clear curtain with lifelike image of fish from the 1990's (broken and had rust stains all over). All of these other issues were cosmetic, the two deal breakers for us were the guests next to our room smoking cigarettes (and the front desk not believing us when we complained there was smoking in the hallway) and the amount of noise you can hear from your room at all hours of the night. I felt like I was back in college listening to frat kids party all night.
