A truly Tuscan treat

Posted 11 Aug 2019 on HomeAway
We had a superb week at the villa - Andrew is very welcoming, full of good advice and an obvious love of the area. Assisted by glorious sunny weather we managed to balance relaxation with exploration - the pool at the top of the hill (quite a climb & watch your footing on the way down especially if it’s getting dark) is not as gleaming as your top hotel but has a rustic charm surrounded by tall cool shady trees & bamboo with a useful little hut for keeping drinks refrigerated or preparing some basic food or a pool side BBQ. The decking is a bit rickety so watch your step but this area gave us some very enjoyable times with just cicadas & the church bells to hear. The covered hill top ‘gazebo’ was a beautiful place to sit for a drink a read a lunch or appetisers & an Aperol especially watching the sunset. We ate virtually every meal sat outside on the terrace by the kitchen. The BBQ here is good too. Tennis was great with decent racquets & balls provided so no need to cram them into your bags. Save space instead for some delicious Marteli pasta from hilltop Lari - a really pretty hilltop village opposite the valley - two useful little grocers to top up between big supermarket trips. Superb little gelato shop too. Day trips to Florence (€14 return by train from Pontedera & prob less hassle than driving), with advance booked Ufuzi tickets ( don’t get fooled by an ‘agency’ ticket site like we did & avoid paying an extra €4 per ticket - find the very elegant official site ) totally worth the visit. Mercado centrale closes at 2 thou & The Duomo at around 4.30. San Gimignano - utterly beautiful (but watch the ZTL - get familiar with what these signs look like as well as the bewilderingly frequent speed limit changes & cameras) - would recommend the Quattro Ghati restaurant - Spiaggi Bianco an option if you like a beach but a bit of a drive (though stunning views). Lucca again totally fabulous - very easy parking outside the walls & doable as an on the way back to Pisa day trip. We enjoyed mainly eating delicious local food bought in the shops rather than fancy restaurants but Andrew has lots of suggestions if needed. Kitchen well equipped especially if you like cooking. The ‘welcome pack’ was full of generous goodies - thanks Andrew! The house is comfortable with some interesting & quirky ornaments. The third double bed is a sofa bed but reportedly v comfy. Access to villa by q long bumpy track so leave the Ferrari at home. Thanks A !

Tuscan villa near Lari

Posted 7 Jul 2018 on HomeAway
This is a solid, old, traditional and lovely Tuscan villa. It is set in the heart of the stunning Tuscan countryside. It is big, plenty of room to hang out, a tennis court on the way in and a pool a bit of a climb up the hill. The views from the pool area are fantastic. The pool is basic but well maintained and set in the trees. Very peaceful. We loved sitting on the villa balcony in the morning with a coffee overlooking the village of Lari across the valley. You feel as though you’re among the trees with the birds swooping around and singing from the treetops. You don’t need to travel any further to experience Tuscan countryside but if you do the villa is centrally located. Cinque Terre is a 1:30 drive, accessed by train from La Spezia. San Gimignano and Greve in Chianti are 1:30 to the south. The coast is 45 minutes away. The local restaurants are excellent and Andrew is very helpful explaining attractions, where to eat, where to buy wine. He is always willing to help if you need more information to let you make the most of your stay. We loved staying here, it’s beautiful.

Très belle villa au cœur de la Toscane

Posted 27 Aug 2019 on HomeAway
