It took three tries to get the type of room I reserved. In my first room, I didn't have the ocean view that I had reserved. It also had a refrigerator that wasn't working. And when I opened the refrigerator, a roach ran out.

Every time I come to Cartagena I stay here, the hotel is clean, it has huge green areas, it has cute animal walking around, it’s such a stress free environment, the food is amazing and fresh, the crew is so nice and always smiling ready to help you! It’s a lot better than staying in a tall building hotel, I loved it

Staff overall friendly, but some real slow. Do not upgrade to beach view. Not a full beach view. Garden / pool nicely kept… relaxing. Beach is public. If you don’t mind local vendors then you’ll be okay. If not stay at hotel pool or go to other beaches.

A great family oriented hotel with tons of history and character, it is a 5 star hotel guaranteed! Clean, spacious, lots of green and animals walking around for people to appreciate. Will be back.

Easy check in, but room had no towels. Asked 3 times and finally just took some from a hallway closet. The grounds of the hotel is 5 stars. The room was barely 2 stars (and that’s being generous). Old, stained and dingy furniture. Horribly hard mattress. Construction on the floor beneath ours w/hammering & sawing was so loud, it vibrated the bed and walls (I have a recording). They redid the floors of our building and caused room to fill with a pungent chemical paint thinner smell. I called the front desk and they said they’d look into it, but never followed up. We went on an excursion one day, and when we returned, construction men had been allowed into our room to replace the headboard. I feel like that’s something that should’ve been mentioned to us before leaving that day. We would’ve hidden any valuables, especially because we couldn’t get our safe to work. One of the men working on our headboard must’ve used our restroom and unfortunately urinated around the toilet..which I stepped in:(. The breakfast was decent, but the pool side service was hit or miss. Also, I would go down to the pool early, & all the sun beds would be “claimed” with personal items thrown across them, yet no one would show up for hour upon hours to actually use them. Signs say that items can’t be used to “save” the bed, yet I never saw a single employee remove unattended items to allow the beds to be used by people who were actually at pool. Would not stay here again.

My family and I booked two rooms from 12/20-12/25. A total of 9 guests. We were assigned rooms 105,106. Rooms are falsely advertised in Expedia through photographs. What is shown does not display the filth and lack of up to date maintenance a hotel should maintain. While I understand that this was one of the first hotels in Cartagena, conserving history/structure and maintaining a property up to date are two different things. To start off, room 106 was extremely hot and the AC wouldn’t work no matter how the thermostat was adjusted. I did bring it up to housekeeping but there was never a solution. In comparison to room 105, the temperature was perfect. I had to constantly go over to my sisters room in 105 to cool off because the heat was too much for my family and I. Not only did the shower look absolutely disgusting with how outdated it was, it was simply very uncomfortable (not a practical layout) difficult sink and shower handles (often times they wouldn’t close), mold, dirtiness, and to top it off, our water would go cold often times during showers. This was brought up to Ms. Gomez at the reception desk who then handed the situation to guest relations. Although staff and housekeeping members were very courteous to us during our stay, it does not take away from matters that need attention at this resort. Had we not been there for a wedding, dealing with different activities on a daily, we would have asked for a refund on the first day to leave elsewhere.

This is rated as a 5 star hotel, and I got an ocean view room which did not have balcony and it was not specified in the booking, also the ocean view was less than partial due to the hotel is not in first line of beach and in the from of my room they have the beach tents, also the bathrooms needs improvements right away. The service was excellent and the environment with the deers and slots and all the animals are a must for families, the food and drinks were very good also. In general it was a good experience but definitely not a five star hotel and the price was too elevated for what they offered.

My husband and I stayed for a week and overall had a fantastic time. Hotel is beautiful! Buffet breakfast was included and it was so good with lots of traditional food which was great. Staff at front desk, bellman, doorman, waiters and waitresses are beyond friendly. Always smiling and sweet. Cleanliness was top notch! Very easy to get transportation. Doorman calls cabs for you and they arrive in seconds. Upgrading us to a junior suite in the Laguito building when we arrived was a nice gesture. However, room looked old and there was a party going on in a private residence across the street that was so loud we asked to be switched. We were switched to a room in the same building on a lower floor facing another side and we could still hear the party very loud but we decided to tough it out. After we got back from dinner, it was louder so we were moved to a room on the colonial side and the room was beautiful! The downside of that side was the loud music playing until almost 5 am every night by the pool area. The pool closes at 8pm so there is no reason for this extremely loud music to go on until 4:30-5. Out of a full week, only one night was quiet and we were able to sleep. After the second night of not sleeping, we had to go get ear plugs. Aside from the loud music and lack of sleep, I would recommend this hotel. It was an amazing vacation and staff went above and beyond for us!

Solid 3 star hotel with a 5 star internal garden / court Our second time in this hotel, so limited surprises. We chose the hotel based on the balance of pros and cons and our own relative weight of these. Check in - process was fast, employee friendly. Unfortunately the room was not ready (it is well understood that early check in request is not guaranteed) despite the heads up that we will arrive an hour or so earlier than check in time, returning guests, same day birthday, and gold Expedia status. Returning guest status is not acknowledged in any way. They sent a cake after we made it finally to the room, thanks to the receptionist who saw it was my birthday when filling the forms. Pros: secure private area at the beach, location out of the walled city but close, wonderful grounds with animals and birds, good size pool. Many reviews have mentioned these and I cannot think of another hotel that can offer so. Employees are polite and professional. Breakfast is sufficient as options. Cons: the Colonial building is the only officially renovated one, so we booked the most expensive category of a room there, it is very small. It is renovated, however already quite beaten up. Daily cleaning is regular but not thorough. There is a tv with only a couple international channels, safe, no coffee maker. We understood that two floors of the Lagomar building have been renovated (not renovated bathrooms though, but rooms are bigger there). I did communicate with the hotel prior to bookin

One of the best resorts in Bocagrande area. Convenient location with restaurants, shopping mall and pharmacies at walking distances. Property exterior is well maintained with lots of free roaming animals and birds. Lots of amenities available in the resort. Ruben at front reception was very helpful and friendly. However, little disappointed with service of staff especially at the restaurant and breakfast area. Staff is not very friendly as expected from a 5 star hotel. Room condition is also poor. Outdated furniture and especially washroom. Leaking faucet, shower head, etc.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Caribe. The breakfast was plentiful, the staff was pleasant and accommodating, and it was an added treat to see all of the wildlife on sight. We felt safe and we will definitely stay again.

The best hotel in Cartagena
As a person who travels to Cartagena a lot, I will tell you that this is the best hotel in the city. The pool is great, the service is great, the rooms are great and the location is perfect. I really don't think I will stay at any other hotel in Cartagena.

The hotel itself had very nice grounds and large pool area, the staff were in generally friendly and helpful. We didn’t find breakfast such a great experience as we thought the food wasn’t very good and service could have been better.

The only thing is the evening restaurant…. The service wasn’t great. Food arrived at the table cold because the waiter took his time bringing it. We had to remind him we are waiting for our food…….

Great Hotel on Bocagrande
Great hotel in a good location with access to the beach and many restaurants and shops within walking distance. Nice food available from the pool bar and lovely fresh cooked pizzas in the evening which the kids enjoyed. The room could of done with a refresh as the condition was slightly worn looking, but overall this did not detract from our stay there. Staff are always polite and attentive. We have been to this hotel before and will hopefully visit again. Keep an eye out for the wild animals within the grounds (deer, parrots, toucans, sloth)

The room(suite ) I stayed was dated; however, it had a good Ocean and partial city view.
