    An improving hotel

Even though the hotel is undergoing a massive refurb, we had a comfortable stay. There is still much more work to be done on corridors, reception etc, but our room was completed - quite spacious and well-designed. The bed was comfortable: the mirrors in the bedroom were well located with a socket for a hairdryer under a mirror. In-room facilities were good - tea/coffee making. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and new, fluffy large towels. There may be an issue with sound insulation between adjacent bedrooms: loud voices could be heard, possibly through the boxed-in sections under the ceiling over the window. However, this didn’t create a big problem. I would certainly consider booking this hotel again. I guess that the refurb will improve the quality of the hotel.

    3/5

Nice enough place, clean for the most part and comfortable. Some tea and coffee available, however only two mugs and these were not replaced, nor did we have the means of washing them. Breakfast was okay. We had no forewarning that the building is under construction and we had builders walking on the scaffolding directly outside our window, meaning we had to keep the curtains shut to maintain privacy. Therefore left in a dark room, with the noise. Unfortunately, a few members of staff are in much need of stronger hospitality skills. Our check-in and check-out staff were pleasant enough. Google maps claims that the hotel is permanently closed, before our trip I felt better about contacting the hotel myself to double check. The staff explained this because they are under new management, but the lady seemed a bit exasperated in telling me this. On our second morning, we attended our breakfast; our room number was mistakenly left off of the list, which wouldn’t have been much of an issue, if not for the staff’s attitude. Rather than being helpful and apologetic, she was immediately hostile up until another member of staff confirmed our booking. The staff would remove empty plates while others were still eating; this made us feel rushed and is simply something I don’t like. On our final morning, housekeeping were in the hallway and a member of staff was almost shouting and swearing excessively. This is incredibly unprofessional and left us feeling a little uncomfortable.
