The couch, carpet and chair in the lounge were filthy. The place also smelled like it was standing closed for months. We kept the door open constantly for fresh air. The bathrooms can also do with extractor fans. Coffee machine missing, as well as docking station, but there was a used (dirty) espresso cup on the counter when we arrived. Some towels had holes from old age. Only 2 teaspoons in the drawer, and when you needed a normal glass, you had to get one from the bed- or bathroom. The bar is now closed, and you couldn’t even buy a bottle of water at the hotel. All the staff that we dealt with were very friendly and helpful though.

So disappointed I cried
Not the room we booked, it was a massive New Years treat for us. Waited ages after check in for an alternative, expected more given that the penthouse we booked was ‘unavailable’ . Not impressed with trying to get us to sign for the alternative rooms with NO explanation. Still waiting to hear back from hotels.com!

Overpriced with maintenance issues
Not great. This apartment was over priced. We had to move rooms because there were so many things wrong with it. They were quite happy to move us we looked at 2 rooms which also not in good repair. We finally moved to one which we thought was in good working order, which was not. Air conditioning didn’t work, TV you could not watch, WiFi was shocking. Overall I would not come back again.

Good location. Terrible housekeeping: cleaners hung wet towel back onto rack, when we requested for change. For any request from housekeeping, one need to call several times. The only good housekeeper is Natalie.

Good location, with good restaurants within walking distance and a nearby supermarket. Amenities in room are never complete. Need to keep calling housekeeping to get what you need, and sometimes have to call many times to remind

No WIFI and phone connectivity and we had to physically go downstairs to reception to make numerous complaints. We were given a room that must have received a fresh coat of paint recently as there was a strong pungent smell. One of the bedside reading lamps was broken and so was the wardrobe railing. The security personnel was very unfriendly with the parking and made us park in specific lots, which changed each time we entered. It seemed to depend on the mood of the person in charge at that time. Somehow, he/she always chooses to emerge only after we have parked the car, switched off the engine and got out of the vehicle. It seemed to be timed to deliberately inconvenience us, to make us go back and move the car to the lot just next to the one we were in when there was plenty of room. There was no manager on duty that we could speak to and an email feedback to the Rooms Division went unanswered.

Excellent spot to stay. 10 minute walk from the waterfront. Staff were fantastic and just so helpful. Only negative was maybe location wasn't tge best to be walking by night. Beautiful rooms...could not fault the hotel itself. Thank you so so much for such a lovely stay x

LOVED IT!
Cape Royale staff, amenities, and location were all amazingly beyond expectations. The hotel was conveniently located near supermarkets, bakeries, and within walking distance to the waterfront. The rooms were spacious and clean, and packed with all kinds of kitchen appliances (even a washer/dryer!). It was (my husband and I) our first time to South Africa, and it certainly wouldn't be our last. We will definitely stay at Cape Royale again when we visit Cape Town.

Nice hotel in a walk-able area with good restaurants nearby and quick shuttle ride to V&A Waterfront. The suites are very spacious with modern amenities.

Large Suites
Very beautiful hotel. Large suites, lots of room for a 2 room suite. Comfy and clean master bedroom. Private guest room and bath. Fully loaded kitchen. Small washer dryer combo that did the job. Nice area for food and drink. Close distance to the warf. Would stay here again with my family.

Close to the waterfront
The room.was vert spacious and clean,the waterfront is walking distance but your'e better of taking the shuttle bus from the hotel to the wayerfront.I was ill after 2 days at the hotel and was bed bound,the hotel arranged a doctor to come and see me and plus the checkout time was 11am but the staff was so kind they said i could checkout when i wanted to as i was unwell amd tgey would not charge extra,great staff,thanks guys.

Fire the management or you are out of business ..
Friendly staff who tried but the management / organization was a joke. Ordering room service food didn’t work. Took 2 hours to even get menus to the room. The kids wanted to take a quick bath and in all our bathrooms there were signs saying that because of severe drought we should ask for the plugs to use bathtubs. No problem with that. After several visits to the room by staff and 1 hour later they just concluded they didn’t know were the plugs were stored. We stayed in a 3 bedroom penthouse suite and had 4 bathrooms, couldn’t use any of the bathtubs. Condition of room was ok. Clean but a bit run down. The swimming pool on our terass was dirty but as we only stayed one night we didn’t have the time nor energy to complain. If this would have been a 3 or even 4 star hotel maybe no reason for a serious complain but 5 star and I guess one of their very best rooms, not a great experience. In the morning after when we spoke to some responsible guy at the breakfast they deeply apologized and upon checkout there was no bill for incidentals. To sum up: friendly staff who wanted to take care of guests and their requests but a non-functioning organization. Would make sense with at least a light refurbishment of rooms.

Great stay
Beautiful hotel in an excellent position. Large rooms and, on the whole, friendly, helpful staff. The pool is not good at the moment due to the water shortage. The views from the roof are worth walking up the stairs for especially at sunset.

Great base for our family holiday in Cape Town. We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was pristine, well equipped, spacious and v comfortable. Rooftop bar/pool once it’s operating properly will make this an even better choice.

Wonderful Hotel and Wonderful staff
We had the most wonderful experience at Cape Royale! Room upgrade to a marvelous penthouse, walk distance to the Waterfront, staff was always ready to help. Not only the hotel is marvelous, but also the surroundings: very nice restaurants and beautiful location. We had our Christmas Eve dinner at the hotel and it was delicious! I recommend with my eyes closed!!!

Lovely Boutique Hotel
The hotel is lovely and the staff are very welcoming. We had an excellent experience from our pick up at the airport to our return. We booked 2 rooms for a party of 4 for 2 nights. Rooms are very large and well appointed. The hotel is on a safe street but if you walk a block in the wrong direction it gets a little sketchy and their are aggressive panhandlers. But I understand that is not uncommon for Cape Town. We recommend the Cafe for breakfast and there are several very good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Excellent Hotel, definitely worth staying here!
Excellent hotel in a great location - not too crowded around the hotel and close to all major attractions. The hotel also has really good travel services - we organised a peninsula trip, which was very nice. The room itself was great, we were in 801, a two bed apartment with kitchen. When travelling with family and little kid this is really helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay here on my return to Cape Town.
